WANTED: A mission-driven professional with ship maintenance and repair background, specifically onboard US Navy ships, and an active Secret clearance to become our next shipboard Field Service Tech Ship Checker at Naval Station San Diego, San Diego, CA. Candidate will support our Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Third Party Planning Contract.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for conducting ship checks onboard naval vessels, in direct support of advanced planning work specification development utilizing applicable drawings and references to help planners validate specification requirements.
  • Validate provided Work Notifications, determine the scope of repairs, and provide an advanced planner with amplifying information to aid in work specification development.
  • Identify shipboard interferences and any other special circumstances that will impact the planning process and work specification development.
  • Document ship checks with detailed information and photographs on an approved ship check form in Portable Document Format (PDF).
  • Works closely with advanced planner/estimator to ensure the correct scope of work is determined.
  • Routine tracing of piping systems, reading schematics and drawings to determine extent of work required to accomplish work order.
  • Record information during ship checks graphically (photos) and in writing to describe requirements to meet work specifications.
  • Reconcile final ship check results with planner and estimator to ensure all understand scope of work.
  • Compare shipboard AS-BUILT conditions to existing ship drawings (arrangements, HM&E piping/electrical one-lines, structural drawings, etc.) to verify accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Perform redline/mark-up of existing drawings to reflect as found shipboard conditions for use in developing as built documentation.
  • Coordinate with engineering/drafting personnel to ensure updates to drawings reflect validated shipboard configurations.
  • Document configuration changes and deviations from baseline technical data in accordance with Navy configuration management and LCS class guidance.
  • Support development of as built packages and inputs to Configuration Data Managers Database-Open Architecture (CDMD-OA
  • Use NAVSEA drawings, ShipAlt/ShipChange packages, technical manuals, QA standards (e.g., NAVSEA Standard Items), and LCS class specific planning tools to validate condition and repair approach.
  • Experience with reading and applying NAVSEA Standard Items and Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM) guidance in planning ship checks and work specifications.

Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • 6 years of experience with a minimum of three (3) years related experience conducting assessments aboard U.S. Navy ships.
  • Extensive knowledge of shipboard structural, mechanical, piping and electrical systems and understand Navy shipboard compartmentation lay-out.
  • Ability to read, understand and validate a Work Notification and to determine the scope of work contained within that Work Notification.
  • Be familiar with Standard Drawing Indexes, Navy Standard Drawings, blueprints, system diagrams, Navy acronyms, and other technical publications and references.
  • Ability to conduct research and determine the correct reference and/or drawing required for the scope of work identified in the Work Notification.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, transit decks and perform work onboard Naval Vessels.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ADOBE programs including word processing, databases and spreadsheets is desired.

Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
