Position Summary

Northern Technologies Group (NTG), an SBA-certified 8(a) IT and cybersecurity consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract at Schriever Space Force Base.

The Senior Systems Engineer will provide systems engineering leadership across the full system lifecycle, supporting the development, integration, testing, and sustainment of enterprise services and mission-critical infrastructure supporting missile defense operations. This role requires expertise in systems engineering methodologies, requirements management, architecture development, and Agile delivery practices.

The selected candidate will collaborate with engineering teams, project managers, operational stakeholders, and government leadership to ensure system solutions are designed, implemented, and maintained in accordance with mission requirements, engineering standards, and program objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, manage, and maintain system requirements and documentation, including requirements traceability matrices that ensure alignment from stakeholder needs through system design, implementation, and operational support.
  • Lead and participate in system design activities, including:
    • Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR)
    • Critical Design Reviews (CDR)
    • Detailed engineering design reviews.
  • Ensure system designs comply with program requirements, engineering standards, and DoD architecture frameworks.
  • Support system verification and validation (V&V) activities, including:
    • Development and execution of test plans
    • System documentation and as-built records
    • Capture of lessons learned.
  • Conduct trade studies, system architecture analysis, research and development, and enterprise service design activities.
  • Support the full system lifecycle, including system development, integration, testing, fielding, sustainment, and operations.
  • Collaborate withproject managers, technical leads, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure successful implementation and operational readiness of systems.
  • Mentor and developjunior and mid-level engineers, supporting Agile engineering practices and task decomposition across Epics, Stories, and Tasks.
  • Maintain coordination with technical leads across:
    • Infrastructure
    • Networking
    • Systems integration
    • Logistics planning
    • Cybersecurity
    • Physical security planning.
  • Support development of engineering plans, cost estimates, schedules, and lifecycle sustainment strategies.
  • Assist leadership in applying process engineering and continuous improvement initiatives across engineering workflows.
  • Provide technical briefings, status updates, and program updates to senior leadership, government stakeholders, and engineering teams.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to stakeholders across multiple technical disciplines.
  • Resolve technical and organizational challenges through strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support program mission objectives.


Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Due to contract requirements, must be a US Citizen
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Minimum 10 years of professional work experience (may be reduced with advanced education).
  • Minimum 5 years of directly related systems engineering experience.
  • At least 1 year of leadership or management experience in an engineering or technical environment.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering standards and methodologies, including:
    • INCOSE Systems Engineering Handbook
    • ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 system lifecycle processes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering processes, including:
    • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
    • Requirements engineering
    • Engineering documentation management.
  • Experience applying Agile delivery practices and Agile team management concepts.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise IT infrastructure, including:
    • Networking
    • Linux and Windows operating systems
    • Virtualization platforms
    • Data storage systems
    • System lifecycle and change management processes.
  • Experience using engineering and collaboration tools such as:
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • Microsoft Visio or other CAD/diagramming tools
    • Agile workflow platforms (Jira, Microsoft Planner, Asana, Trello).


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) from an accredited institution.
  • Experience supporting Missile Defense Agency Continuous Test and Training Operations (CTTO).
  • Experience developing Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) products for large-scale space or enterprise IT systems.
  • Experience with logical architecture modeling and interface definition.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity engineering concepts and security accreditation processes.
  • Knowledge of Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) and other Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) systems.
  • Experience mentoring engineering personnel and implementing continuous improvement practices within technical teams.
