Job Summary
We are seeking a talented Software Developer to join our innovative engineering team during a transformative period. As we transition our codebase from a monolithic architecture to a modular, microservices-based design using containers, and evolve from traditional app-centric solutions to modern web-centric applications, you'll contribute directly to building scalable, reliable systems that matter. You'll work in an Agile environment to deliver iterative, high-quality software that supports mission-critical objectives. This is your chance to apply your technical skills to NASA's historic efforts, including sustaining operations on the International Space Station (ISS) and powering the Artemis program—which is sending humans back to the Moon and laying the foundation for Mars exploration. Be part of the team in Huntsville, Alabama—the Rocket City—driving advancements in human spaceflight and helping shape the future of exploration.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality software solutions throughout the full development lifecycle.
Collaborate within Agile teams (Scrum or Kanban) to participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives for continuous improvement and rapid delivery.
Contribute to the migration from monolithic systems to microservices architectures, implementing containerized deployments using OpenShift to improve scalability, maintainability, and deployment efficiency.
Develop modern web-centric applications, including robust RESTful APIs, responsive web interfaces, and seamless integrations to support cross-platform user experiences.
Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code while adhering to coding standards, security best practices, and performance optimizations.
Participate in code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD pipeline enhancements to ensure reliability and quality.
Work closely with cross-functional teams—including product owners, QA engineers, and operations—to gather requirements, troubleshoot issues, and deliver features aligned with project goals.
Debug and resolve complex technical issues in production and development environments.
Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in web development, microservices, and container orchestration to propose innovative solutions.
Support mission-critical systems with a focus on reliability, security, and compliance in high-stakes aerospace environments.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
4+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong foundation in building and maintaining complex applications.
Solid experience working in Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, or similar), including tools like Jira, Confluence, or Azure DevOps.
Proficiency in modern programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, C#, React/Angular, Spring Boot, Node.js).
Hands-on experience with microservices development and containerization technologies, particularly OpenShift (or comparable platforms like Kubernetes/Docker).
Familiarity with building scalable web applications, RESTful APIs, and distributed systems.
Experience with version control (Git), CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI), and testing frameworks.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts and collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
Background in aerospace, defense, government contracting, or mission-critical software development.
Experience with DevOps practices, automated testing, infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform), or cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Knowledge of security standards, compliance requirements, or working in regulated environments.
Interest in space exploration and contributing to high-impact NASA missions.
Familiarity with real-time systems, modeling & simulation, or embedded software concepts.
We offer competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and the opportunity to grow your career in a supportive, forward-thinking workplace. If you're passionate about software craftsmanship and excited to contribute to humanity's return to the Moon and beyond, apply today!
