Military Grades: Enlisted only - E4-E7
GENERAL EXPERIENCE : MUST possess experience in administrative, clerical, technical, or military work that involves protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; or that involves making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-8 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7 Level. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : GS-8 Level MUST possess at least 1-year equivalent to at least next lower grade level of GS-7; experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.

- Perform Combat Arms Training.
- Present repetitive courses or designated blocks of longer courses and present training material and instruction covering proper use of handguns, rifles, machine guns and other base defense/ground combat skills equipment, in accordance with approved lesson plans and course control documents.
- Instructor makes adjustments in presentation or other instructional methods to resolve common classroom problems, to include those of student motivation and communication, as well as, last minute agenda schedule or student changes, student problems, equipment malfunctions, or lack of supplies.
- Use training aids and devices in addition to those listed in the POI in a manner that enhances training outcome.
- Apply specialized subject matter knowledge in course instruction.
- Maintain accountability and ensure security for weapons/ammunition/explosives utilized in the course of instruction in accordance with applicable Air Force Instructions.
- Manage and oversee the installation ground weapons training and maintenance program; serves as an instructor and inspects ground weapons.
- Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the installation's ground weapons training and maintenance program, incorporating safety requirements, and maintains adherence to safety regulations.
- Promptly evaluate accidents to determine cause and ensure safety guidelines are followed and necessary precautions are taken to prevent further occurrences.
- Perform self- inspections and presents detailed reports to senior leadership.
Conditions of employment
- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. - No history of excessive alcohol use or arrested in the past two years for two or more alcohol related incidents regardless of disposition, except when proven not guilty.
- No more than one active wage garnishment for delinquency.

- Must not have used, distributed, or manufactured illicit narcotics or been arrested for any narcotics use, distribution or manufacturing.

- To qualify for this series, a current physical and a cleared drug test are mandatory.
- Normal color vision and normal depth perception are required, as defined by current Air Force Medical Examinations and Standards Instructions
- Distance visual acuity correctable to 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other.
