As a INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (PLCYPLN/SYSANALYSIS) at the GG-2210-12 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Conducts 24/7 operation and security of the Joint Training Enterprise Network (JTEN).
  • Maintains network capability by administering technical services and dynamic Information Assurance measures.
  • As a Systems Administrator (SYSADMIN), orchestrates and manages information technology contract support for the organization.
  • Develops and documents Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Serves as a network or system administrator for several separate local area network (LAN)/wide area networks (WAns) or Systems.
  • Provides policy guidance to management, staff and customers. Defines current and future IT business environments.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-12, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GG-11 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Recognizing IT principles, methods, advancements, policies, systems concepts and analysis, design, development, testing and applications including hardware and software to perform assigned systems/policy planning assignments;
  • Identifying acquisition requirements to serve as a technical representative on IT contracts and review/generate IT procurement packages to ensure acquisition requirement compliance;
  • Recognizing management requirements sufficient to render recommendations on the development of new software vs. purchase of off-the-shelf (COTS) programs;
  • Understanding computer system design, prototypes, and computer applications and interact with specialists in design and development processes.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the series.

Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
  • Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
