Vision IT is seeking a Systems Engineer – Operations & Maintenance (O&M) to support the 2026 Census Test (26CT) Technical Integration Program at the U.S.
Census Bureau. This program plays a critical role in preparing the operational and technical infrastructure for the 2030 Decennial Census, which informs congressional representation and guides the allocation of $1.5 trillion in federal funding annually.
In this role, you will ensure the reliability, scalability, and operational readiness of critical systems that support distributed field operations, mobile communication, cloudbased analytics, ticketing systems, and enterprise data environments. You will also support integration testing, operational monitoring, and maintenance, contributing to solutions that scale for larger future census operations in 2028 and 2030.
Key Responsibilities
Support integration, monitoring, and O&M of 26CT technology systems, including distributed field operations, mobile communications, large-scale data analytics, ticketing systems, Enterprise Data Lake, and AWS cloud services.
Conduct gap analyses and risk assessments to ensure systems meet operational requirements.
Identify, document, and support defect resolution according to operational and testing schedules.
Plan and execute testing activities to validate interoperability, scalability, and performance under realistic conditions.
Troubleshoot issues across field operations, mobile technology, cloud analytics, and supporting platforms.
Participate in daily, weekly, and ad-hoc operational meetings, including incident response coordination and executive briefings.
Document system configurations, process modifications, and optimizations.
Record and author Lessons Learned to inform improvements for future Census operations.
Maintain meeting notes, operational documentation, and technical reports.
Support offboarding and transition documentation at the conclusion of project phases.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred).
5+ years of experience supporting projects involving:
o Cloud architecture and cloud-based systems (preferably AWS) o Mobility platforms and field operations systems o Enterprise applications or distributed technology environments
Proven experience in troubleshooting technical systems and resolving operational issues.
Experience working in consulting, government, or public sector environments.
S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
Experience supporting the S. Census Bureau or federal statistical programs.
Current or recent Census Bureau clearance.
Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS, ServiceNow, Cisco, PMP). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
