Position Description:
Client is seeking a Senior Virtualization & Storage Engineer to support an End client customer in San Diego, CA. This is a hands-on senior engineering role within a classified environment, focused on designing, optimizing, and sustaining enterprise virtualization and storage platforms that support mission-critical systems.
This position requires deep expertise in VMware ESXi environments and Dell enterprise storage systems, along with experience operating within DoD cybersecurity frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
Virtualization Engineering
Engineer, administer, and optimize VMware vSphere / ESXi environments
Manage clusters, distributed switches, HA configurations, and resource pools
Perform host lifecycle management, upgrades, and patching
Troubleshoot performance across compute, memory, storage, and network layers
Design resilient virtualization architectures for classified workloads
Support VM provisioning automation and DevSecOps integration
Storage Engineering
Engineer and administer Dell enterprise storage platforms (PowerStore, Unity, PowerMax, or equivalent)
Configure and manage SAN/NAS environments
Implement LUN provisioning, storage tiering, replication, and snapshots
Conduct storage performance optimization and capacity planning
Ensure backup integrity and disaster recovery readiness
Troubleshoot connectivity issues (iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NFS, etc.)
Mission & DevSecOps Integration
Support containerized and VM-based workloads
Integrate infrastructure into secure CI/CD pipelines
Ensure compliance with DISA STIGs, RMF controls, and DoD cybersecurity standards
Collaborate with network, cloud, Windows, and security teams
Contribute to automation efforts using PowerShell, PowerCLI, Python, or similar
Maintain architecture documentation and operational runbooks
Required Skills/Education:
10+ years of relevant enterprise infrastructure experience
Strong expertise in VMware vSphere / ESXi and vCenter administration
Experience with Dell enterprise storage platforms (PowerStore, Unity, PowerMax)
Experience supporting DoD or classified environments
Working knowledge of RMF and DISA STIG compliance
Strong troubleshooting skills across virtualization, storage, and networking layers
Active IAT II certification (one of the following required):
Security+
CySA+
SSCP
GSEC
GICSP
CCNA-Security
Preferred Qualifications:
VMware certifications (VCP, VCAP)
Dell storage certifications
Experience with automation or Infrastructure as Code
