Duties
Help
  • You will plan, direct, coordinate, and assess work utilizing technical, supply, and quality specialists to assure implementation of the Assembly torpedo maintenance division.
  • You will develop and implement methods to eliminate or reduce significant bottlenecks and barriers to torpedo production.
  • You will evaluate and develop innovative methods and procedures for various technical training programs and utilizes cross training to provide operational flexibility relative to the technical work of the department.
  • You will troubleshoot failed electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic components of MK48 torpedoes using various electrical-mechanical test equipment, and other test and evaluation methods, techniques, procedures, and practices.
  • You will perform self-assessments, internal audits, and quality documentation reviews.
  • You will isolate, define, characterize features of problems related to torpedo equipment, process, or supply and synthesize solutions and/or verification tests to characterize these problems.
  • You will develop and evaluate subordinate employees' performance standards.
  • You will prioritize employee safety and occupational health through innovative prevention practices and enforcement of regulatory compliance.
  • You will cooperate and participate fully in the development of an Affirmative Action Plan and efforts regarding staffing, motivation, and training to develop all employees.

  • You will be required to bend, reach, and crouch frequently.
  • You will be required to lift light to moderately heavy items weighing less than 50 pounds.
  • You will be required to have regular visits to torpedo production and storage areas.
  • Regular and frequent exposure to moderate risks and discomforts such as: (1) dust, fumes, and odors from chemicals; (2) Noise; (3) electrical hazards. The work environment requires the specialist to be alert and take special safety precautions.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to possess certification in accordance with OPNAV INSTURCTION 8023.24 Navy Personnel Ammunition and Explosives Handling Qualification and Certification (QUAL/CERT) Program.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position holds a role in Nuclear Deterrent Mission (NDM).
Qualifications

GS-11:
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience applying a wide range of technical concepts, practices, regulations, policies, and precedents related to the complex MK48 heavyweight torpedo production process.
  • Experience analyzing heavyweight torpedoes and support equipment while developing innovative methods, approaches, and procedures to solve complex problems.
  • Experience implementing Occupational Safety and Health Regulations and validating of explosive Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Experience preparing briefings for higher management review of torpedo program goals, problems and resolutions, and program accomplishments.
  • Experience presenting with Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint in order to manage data and perform analyses.
