Position Summary
The Principal Project Accountant serves as a strategic advisor to Operations and Functional Support teams, providing expert guidance on accounting and financial decisions while ensuring compliance with regulatory and corporate standards. This role combines advanced project accounting knowledge with Deltek Costpoint systems administration, business intelligence reporting, Costpoint system integration, and process implementation. The position is critical in driving financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and governance across the organization.

Responsibilities
Advisory & Financial Decision Support
- Act as a trusted advisor to Operations and Functional Support personnel on accounting principles, project financial performance, and compliance requirements.
- Provide guidance on cost structures, revenue recognition, funding modifications, and project closeout strategies.
- Collaborate with Program Managers and Contracts teams to ensure financial decisions align with corporate objectives and regulatory standards.
Project Accounting
- Participate in the full lifecycle of project accounting, including setup, billing, revenue recognition, cost allocations, and WIP management.
- Monitor and reconcile project financials to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Drive resolution of variances and implement corrective actions to maintain financial integrity.
Costpoint Systems Administration & Integration
- Serve as a Costpoint Subject Matter Expert, assisting with managing system configuration, security roles, workflows, and integrations.
- Oversee system integration initiatives to streamline data flow between Costpoint and related platforms.
- Maintain master data governance and ensure audit-ready documentation for all system changes.
Business Intelligence Reporting
- Assist in designing and deliver BI reports and/or dashboards and reports to provide actionable insights on project financials, backlog, and operational performance.
- Assist in developing automated reporting solutions and maintain data integrity across all financial systems.
- Partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into meaningful analytics.
Process Implementation & Governance
- Develop and implement standardized processes for project accounting, system administration, and financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with FAR/DFARS, CAS, and internal policies through robust governance frameworks.
- Support internal and external audits with accurate documentation and timely responses.

- Strong BI/reporting skills (Power BI, Cognos, Costpoint BI) and advanced Excel proficiency.
- Strong Familiarity with FAR/DFARS and CAS compliance requirements

- Advisory Expertise: Ability to guide operational teams on complex financial decisions.
- Systems & Data Fluency: Deep understanding of Costpoint, Chrome River, and data integration.
- Analytical Rigor: Skilled in variance analysis, forecasting, and actionable insights.
