Duties

  • You will administers protocol support program and related public relations activities.
  • You will direct all command protocol events and supervise and perform coordination of special projects involving special management control.
  • You will develop programs designed to improve and maintain full understanding and support of the American people and our Allies by clearly articulating the complex mission of CUSFFC.
  • You will plan, direct and manage an effective, comprehensive protocol/distinguished visitor (DV) program.
  • You will provide direct guidance and support in the development and planning of official social functions conducted to welcome, honor or entertain visitors and distinguished guests to CUSFFC.
  • You will interpret pertinent regulations concerning uses of Official Representation Funds (ORF), SECNAVINST 7042.7H and provide guidance as required.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-14, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience planning, directing and managing an effective, comprehensive protocol/distinguished visitor (DV) program based on a thorough knowledge of the organization's makeup to include its interrelationships with other components of DOD, other agencies, services and governments.
  • Experience providing direct guidance and support in the development and planning of official social functions including directing the preparation of guest lists, funding, seating diagrams, invitations, catering/equipment contracts, and automated files of guests and events.
  • Experience interpreting pertinent regulations concerning military protocol and use of Official Representation Funds SECNAVINST 7042.7L and providing guidance as required to the organization and subordinate commands.
  • Experience supervising military and civilians staff involved in a variety of complex command support functions in the Executive Dining Facility, Flag Barge, and command's conference center supporting senior military leadership and senior civilian executives.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Work is usually performed in an office setting with occasional travel by private or commercial vehicles required.

Escorting official visitors in the local area, attending meetings, luncheons and dinners in government and city buildings, hotel facilities, local restaurants and on board military ships will also be required.

Scheduled and unscheduled overtime are routinely required of the position in response to visitor schedules and preparation work for Command Level special events.
