As a PROGRAM ANALYST (TRAVEL PROGRAMS) at the GS-0343-13 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Analyzes travel-related business processes, management requirements, and system operations to research, recommend, and implement improvements, cost reductions, and corrective actions.
  • Serves as the lead tester for the Defense Travel System (DTS), developing test plans, verifying new functionality, and leading special projects to resolve system problem reports and address data analysis mandates.
  • Analyzes and evaluates the end-to-end operation of enterprise-wide travel systems, ensuring their effectiveness, quality, and progress in providing streamlined processes from user logon to final transaction archiving.
  • Prepares and provides critical data, metrics, and informational packages related to travel system functional requirements for submission to senior leadership.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert, representing the branch and division on various committees and working groups to provide analysis and recommend courses of action on enterprise-wide travel systems.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Skill in adapting analytical techniques and evaluation criteria to the measurement and improvement of program effectiveness and/or organizational productivity.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies governing DoD passenger travel to include the Joint Travel Regulations and the Financial Management Regulations, to effectively oversee the sustainment or implementation of DoD travel systems.
  • Expert knowledge and the ability to extrapolate information from questionable or incomplete data, validate analytical conclusions, and integrate contributions from other analysts and/or subject matter experts to prepare analytical products and provide timely analysis to support ongoing or new travel support to the Departmental efforts through the Branch and Division chiefs.
  • Representing the organization with other professional organizations in seminars and conferences.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
