Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking a motivated, self-driven, Sr. DevOps Engineer for an exciting opportunity to support the Air Force's acquisition of the next generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). This is a challenging and exciting opportunity to support the US Air Force's continued logistics advancement, subsystem acquisition, and sustainment of MMIII technologies and capabilities.
This role will be working directly with an experienced software development team in creating a platform to allow development inside an environment that aligns with DevSecOps and GitOps principles. You will help with rapidly deploying web applications into various cloud platforms with a security mindset. You will develop automation scripts for our CI/CD pipeline and code infrastructure for various cloud platforms through Infrastructure as Code (IaC), focusing on enhancing our software delivery processes, observability, platform engineering, and security practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SRE, platform engineering, and security, and will be responsible for driving innovation and efficiency across our engineering teams. This position will assist the organization with migrating from traditional waterfall methodologies into modern agile, DevSecOps and cloud native software environments.

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a small team of DevOps engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration across development, operations, and security teams.
- Implement and optimize Site Reliability Engineering practices to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of our systems. Develop and maintain automated monitoring and alerting systems.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable and secure infrastructure platforms. Ensure seamless integration and deployment processes through CI/CD pipelines.
- Incorporate security best practices into DevOps workflows. Conduct regular security assessments and implement measures to mitigate vulnerabilities.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools to streamline operations and improve efficiency. Stay updated with the latest DevOps technologies and tools.
- Lead incident response and post-mortem analysis to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Develop strategies to minimize downtime and improve system resilience.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to align DevOps strategies with business objectives. Communicate effectively with stakeholders to manage expectations and deliver results.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in DevOps, SRE, platform engineering, and security. Encourage team members to pursue professional development opportunities.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- 10 years of progressive experience (8 years w/Master's Degree)
- Proven experience in SRE, platform engineering, and security practices
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes)
- Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab, Github Actions) and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)
- Knowledge of scripting languages and methods to automate processes
- Serving as a system administrator for Linux systems and Windows systems
- Configure, deploy and maintain containerized systems using Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and/or AWS Cloud Formation
- Gather and analyze metrics from both operating systems and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding
- Familiar with building and deploying software using npm, container and package repos, Gitlab, security tools for all phases of SDLC, and other related tools
- Configuration management of Infrastructure as Code (IaS) and Security as Code (SaC)
- Troubleshoot build issues, script failures, network and system errors
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack)
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Development of solutions for complex Business Intelligence ecosystems.
- Experience with secure IT systems and ATOs which comply with DoD standards and regulations for secure network operations (DoDI 8510.01, RMF, FedRamp, etc)
- Experience with managing container repos like Harbor or Gitlab and package repos like Nexus Repository or JFrog
- Deep understanding of NIST Controls and DFARS
- Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
