Basic Requirements for Medical Readiness Specialist:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing guidance for a variety of emergency situations; developing criteria for exercising contingency response plans; and monitoring emergency response program operations to ensure action requirements are met.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Emergency Management, Medical Emergency Services, Public Health Administration.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. - Serve as the Medical Emergency Manager (MEM) and technical advisor to the Military Treatment Facility commander.
- Manage policies and procedures to ensure accomplishment of programs and to find ways to improve quality, timeliness, and efficiency of work.
- Serve as the MTF commander's liaison promptly keeping the installation and local civilian medical/emergency response agencies updated to ensure an emergency response posture is maintained that will enable effective response to disasters
- Prepare the Annual Medical Readiness Training and Exercise Schedule (MRTES) and ensure the MTF meets training and exercise requirements that effectively presents the required subject matter and enhances performance.
- Conduct inspections and audits to measure the effectiveness of the various medical readiness functions in meeting goals and objectives.
- Provide medical input for development of disaster plan details and checklists that cover military and other federal agencies in the area.

- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

- Frequent shifts in working hours and extended periods of overtime may be required. Night or weekend shifts can be expected if situation warrants immediate medical contingency response action.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- This position is designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
