Essential Responsibilities:
The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing routine repairs and maintenance tasks across multiple disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry, to ensure that all building systems and facilities are in proper working order. This role involves the use of hand and power tools, troubleshooting systems, and performing preventative maintenance as required. This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.

The General Maintenance Worker operates independently or under supervision to complete tasks efficiently and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards. Primary responsibilities include:
- Routine Repairs & Maintenance:
- Perform general mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repair tasks in support of facility operations.
- Address facility malfunctions and complete repairs on building systems such as lighting, doors, windows, HVAC components, sinks, toilets, and minor structural damage.
- Troubleshoot issues to identify root causes and perform efficient repairs or escalate the problem to trade experts if needed.
- Preventative Maintenance:
- Conduct scheduled maintenance activities to ensure equipment and building systems operate effectively.
- Inspect facility components regularly and make adjustments or repairs to avoid potential equipment breakdowns.
- Perform basic upkeep tasks, such as replacing filters, cleaning drains, lubricating moving parts, and checking electrical components.
- Carpentry & Construction Tasks:
- Perform minor carpentry tasks such as repairing furniture, cabinets, and partitions, or replacing tiles, drywall, or fixtures.
- Assemble or disassemble office furniture and shelving units as required.
- Tools & Equipment:
- Operate and maintain hand and power tools effectively, ensuring safe and proper usage for various maintenance and repair tasks (e.g., drills, saws, hammers, wrenches, and multimeters).
- Maintain and troubleshoot small equipment such as pumps, compressors, generators, or small motors.
- Workplace Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted in accordance with OSHA regulations, organizational safety policies, and building codes.
- Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety procedures when working with electrical tools, plumbing systems, or hazardous materials.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Record all completed repairs, inspections, replacements, and maintenance activities accurately in work orders or logbooks.
- Report unexpected issues, supply needs, or equipment malfunctions to supervisors promptly.
- Collaboration & Support:
- Work with other maintenance team members, contractors, and vendors to coordinate repairs and resolve facility issues efficiently.
- Provide support for special projects, events, or operational priorities that require general maintenance expertise.

- Periodic standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing to access building systems or equipment.

- Visual acuity to read blueprints, schematics, instruction manuals, and to inspect systems or repairs.

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two (2) years of experience in building maintenance or a related field.
- Journeyman certification and licensure in a relevant trade such as electrical, plumbing, or mechanical systems.
- General mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry abilities to resolve typical facility issues.
- Familiarity with basic mathematical functions for accurately calculating measurements, voltages, material requirements, or system performance figures.
- Good working knowledge of hand and power tools, including safe operation, maintenance, and proper uses.
- Understanding of applicable safety standards, building codes, and proper maintenance procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, diagrams, and technical instructions.
Clearance Required (If Applicable):
- TS/SCI with Poly
Minimum Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Years of Experience:
- Two (2) or more years of experience in the maintenance field.
Required Certifications:
- Journeyman certification or state-recognized professional licensure in a related maintenance trade.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specialized training or certifications in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing systems.
- Experience working in government facilities, mission-critical environments, or commercial maintenance operations.
- Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and energy-efficient maintenance practices.
- Additional safety certifications such as OSHA 10, OSHA 30, or confined space entry training.
