Position Summary

Aegis Aerospace is currently seeking a Propulsion Systems Design Engineer to support spacecraft propulsion development for the Geo-XO satellite program in partnership with Lockheed Martin in Littleton, Colorado.

The engineer will support the design, implementation, integration, and testing of spacecraft propulsion systems used for satellite positioning, trajectory control, and mission operations. This position requires close collaboration with Lockheed Martin engineering teams and adherence to Lockheed Martin design processes and review procedures.

This role supports the Geo-XO satellite program, a multi-phase NOAA spacecraft initiative providing next-generation geostationary weather observation capabilities for the United States.

This role involves adapting existing propulsion architectures from the legacy GOES spacecraft while supporting development of new propulsion components and subsystems for next-generation satellite systems.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $115,000 annually depending on experience, education, and directly related certifications.
Period of Performance:

Current contract period is through January 2027. This position supports an ongoing spacecraft program and is expected to continue beyond the current contract period pending contract extension.
Key Responsibilities:
The candidate will:
  • Support specification development, system design, and propulsion subsystem implementation
  • Adapt existing propulsion system designs from legacy GOES spacecraft and support development of new propulsion systems including engines and fuel systems used to maintain satellite position and trajectory in orbit
  • Support propulsion system hardware and software integration planning with other spacecraft subsystems to ensure reliable mission operations
  • Plan and support testing activities to verify propulsion system performance across launch, orbital, and operational mission phases
  • Develop calibration plans to ensure accurate and reliable propulsion system performance
  • Generate engineering artifacts and presentations required for Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR)
  • Document engineering design progress and technical analysis on a weekly basis
  • Develop additional engineering documentation including Engineering Memos and design reports
  • Resolve technical action items associated with propulsion system design reviews
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and communicate technical results to stakeholders and program leadership

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to comply with U.S. Export Control regulations (ITAR/EAR)
  • Applicants must currently reside in the United States and be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship now or in the future
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in electromechanical design
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on aerospace propulsion industry experience outside of an academic environment
  • Experience working with Engineering Product Data Management (EPDM)
  • CREO experience including tubing tool, harness tool, and drawing creation
  • Knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Familiarity with ASME standards
  • Experience reviewing engineering drawings
  • Electrical circuit familiarity
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Technical writing experience
  • Secondary structure design experience
  • Hardware testing experience
  • Demonstrated technical problem-solving ability
  • Experience working in collaborative engineering teams where communication and coordination are critical
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to establish professional credibility with customers and contract personnel
  • Reliable work habits and the ability to manage technical objectives, milestones, and priorities

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting government aerospace or defense contracts
  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat

Compensation:
  • Salary Range: $80,000 - $115,000 annually. Final compensation is based on experience, education, and directly relevant certifications.
