Infrastructure (DevOps) Engineer | Direct Hire
Hybrid (2 - 3x/week), Arlington, VA (must be local)
Our Defense AI Client is establishing their first U.S.-based engineering hub in Arlington, VA. As an early member of this team, you will be responsible for architecting and building the infrastructure foundation that supports our expansion into the U.S. market.
This is a unique opportunity to design secure, compliant cloud environments from the ground up at the intersection of advanced AI technology and national security. You will have end-to-end ownership of the infrastructure stack—from designing AWS GovCloud environments to developing the internal tooling that enables your fellow engineers. As we scale, you’ll build the platforms and automation that allow our teams to deliver mission-critical capabilities safely and efficiently.
Core Responsibilities
Architect & Implement: Build AWS GovCloud infrastructure designed to meet CMMC Level 2 requirements and prepare the organization for certification.
Infrastructure as Code: Maintain and evolve Terraform and IaC tooling to manage Kubernetes clusters for both general builds and AI model training.
Developer Experience: Co-develop internal tools using Python and Rust to improve productivity, including CI/CD automation and CLI tooling.
Collaborative Design: Work with global Core Infra and DevX teams to adapt existing infrastructure patterns for the specific needs of the U.S. market.
Leadership: As a senior member, you will help interview, onboard, and mentor new engineers, contributing directly to the growth of our technical culture.
Your Background
AWS Expertise: Deep experience designing and operating production infrastructure at scale. Familiarity with AWS GovCloud or creating compliant infrastructure is a significant plus.
Container Orchestration: Proficiency with Kubernetes and Cloud-Native technologies (e.g., Helm, ArgoCD, or Flux).
Software Engineering Mindset: You write clean, maintainable code in Python, Rust, or similar languages to build automation rather than relying solely on manual configuration.
Ownership & Ambiguity: You are comfortable working without a rigid roadmap. You actively seek context, make pragmatic architectural decisions, and iterate based on feedback.
Mission-Oriented: You value operational excellence and believe that building technology in service of democratic values is meaningful work.
Eligibility: Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance (Secret or Top Secret preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with defense compliance frameworks (CMMC Level 2, FedRAMP, NIST 800-171).
Familiarity with MLOps platforms for training and serving machine learning models.
Experience with container security, supply chain security, or working in air-gapped/disconnected environments.
Understanding of ITAR restrictions and export control requirements.
Previous work in big tech or startup environment.
