Job Description

The Facilities and Plant Operations (FPO) Team support BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems SMS sector's 36 properties, over 2 million SF of real estate, in Colorado. This established team of over 90 Facilities and Industrial Operations professionals is committed to service and support, continuous improvement, and creating and maintaining Facilities which enable world class engineers and technicians to create a better, safer, and more informed and productive world.

FPO's Strategic Space and Utilization team supports strategic space and equipment planning, capital management and support for SMS business units, enterprise operations management, space planning and allocation as well as design and operations planning services.

As a Facilities Planning Specialist II, you will join the strategic space planning team and help support one of our largest business units with a partnering Facilities Sr. Planner. This role will allow you to interact and collaborate with all levels of BAE Systems SMS employees on matters related to strategic facility planning, space management as it relates to business needs and space allocation. This team serves as primary point of contact for regular and new hire seating requests, project space planning and programming, and gathering growth projections and employee counts from internal teams. You will validate and develop space planning data related to building and campus occupancy levels, employee churn, and overall space utilization within BAE Systems SMS buildings.

The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution - from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop detailed space plans and layouts that allow for maximum flexibility as programs, or the organization, grow and/or contract.
  • Perform requirement gathering and programming tasks for facilities projects and initiatives.
  • Facilitate large planning move projects and partner with other team members to implement and execute large scale moves.
  • Work with Admin, Operations and Facilities partners on all space planning and coordination needed for both day-to-day seating changes within teams and large campus wide moves related to business growth and/or contraction.
  • Analyze functional space needs for SCU (Strategic Capability Unit) and SBU (Strategic Business Unit) teams for office space, tech seating within labs and/or technical space, and within classified and unclassified areas within SMS campuses.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date block plans and neighborhood plans across the organization to allow for agile moves.
  • Identify areas of improvement for the department and conduct process improvement efforts to improve space planning related processes.
  • Periodically inspect buildings to ensure availability of space; conduct regular space audits to determine space needs and priorities for required changes to allow work progress in a sequential order.
  • Maintain current knowledge of evolving Facilities Management trends, office space design, and space allocation best practices and translate changes in work environment design into dynamic spaces for BAE Systems SMS employees.
  • Assist with the modification of AutoCAD space plans as needed for space planning changes, large projects, and day to day employee moves.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.


Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS/BA in related field plus 2 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Experience in Facilities Management, Planning, Facilities Project Management, or furniture/interior project management or design.
  • Exceptional customer service skillset.
  • Familiarity with IFMA and ANSI/BOMA standards.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with CAFM/IWMS systems.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD 2014+.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Visio and Excel, SharePoint and Teams.
  • Work under limited supervision. Routine work requires no instruction. General instructions given for new assignments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel between campuses as needed, to support projects.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Experience supporting Aerospace and/or Corporate Facilities, and familiarity with classified and secured work environments is highly preferred.
  • ARCHIBUS experience is preferred.
  • An active DoW Secret Collateral or TS/SCI clearance is preferred.
  • Facilities Management, Project Management and/or Interior Design certifications or accreditations.
  • Degrees in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Facilities Management, with an emphasis in Facilities Design or Project Management, is highly preferred.


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $67406 - $114590

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
