Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) providing fire prevention, fire protection and emergency operations; 2) performing emergency medical service and hazardous materials responses; and 3) performing airfield fire control, disaster response/control and recovery.
This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-09: Firefighter 1 and 11, Apparatus Driver-Operator for Pumper, Airport Rescue Firefighting, Aerial vehicles, HAZMAT Technician/Awareness and Operations, State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic) EMT-P certification. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.

PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation.
- You will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities that may include, but not limited to, research and/or large industrial complexes.
- You will perform pre-fire planning by physically going through structures to become familiar with the layout, fire hazards and location of fixed fire protection systems.
- You will operate a wide variety of firefighting equipment (i.e., hoses, ladders, and hydrants) in an effective manner to control and extinguish fires
- You will communicate over the radio with an Emergency Room (ER) Physician to provide a detailed report of the medical case (i.e., patient history, current medical condition, treatment applied and current patient status).
- You will conduct medical training courses and classes such as CPR, First Responder, Infectious Disease Control, and recurring Continuing Medical Education) to comply with department training requirements.
- You will provide advanced procedures (i.e., endotracheal intubation, nasal intubation, etc.) to maintain patient's airway during resuscitative measures.
- You will operate diagnostic medical equipment such as EKG machines, blood pressure devices, etc. to ensure proper medical care is provided.
- You will provide advanced or detailed patient assessment by conducting a systematic physical examination of the patient's condition to determine appropriate treatment methods.
- You will choose appropriate route to the emergency scene and properly approach and positions vehicles considering factors such as wind directions, sources of water, hazards from falling structures, location or armament on aircraft, etc.
- You will operate firefighting vehicles (e.g. pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
- You will operate pumps, form generators, boom and ground sweep nozzles to eliminate fires.
- You will assist in the training of other firefighters on driving vehicles and operating equipment.
- You will direct water through turrets and hand lines to cool weapons and ammunitions during rescue.
- You will enter crashed and/or burning aircraft to perform rescue.
- You will employ hazardous materials response procedures and equipment to mitigate hazardous materials incidents.
- You will evaluate the effectiveness of the situational response to recommend potential alternative or supplementary actions.
- You will maintain hazardous material (HAZMAT) by decontaminating equipment and supplies to ensure operational readiness.
- You will predict the likely behavior of hazardous materials to estimate potential harm to people and the environment.
