Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying laws and regulations to law enforcement operations, practices and techniques including enforcing traffic laws and issuing citations; performing law enforcement investigations; overseeing suspect apprehension and witness interviews; and responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

- Develop current and long-range law enforcement operation plans for the Ft. Leavenworth installation.
- Review inspection reports and studies and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct liaison visits to local law enforcement agencies to discuss problems, interagency support and future plans.
- Establish, supervise and direct the overall organization, planning and operation of the Operations Branch.
- Conduct studies and develop recommendations on proposed new missions.
- Prepare requests to fill vacancies and estimate and justify resources needed to accomplish plans and missions.
- Interview and oversee the interview process and selection of new employees.
- Serve as a Police Officer with responsibility to investigate and apprehend suspects and explain rights and procedures to violators.
- Plan, schedule and distribute work to subordinates.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able obtain and maintain a valid Tier 3 (Secret) security investigation.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- In the event of a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority.
- Work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evening, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbents are required to work overtime as directed and are subject to on call for emergency overtime
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- Must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
- Must attend the United States Army Military Police School Civilian Police Academy and successfully graduate within 12 months of hire date unless you have an approved waiver/exception or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
- A pre-employment examination and an annual examination thereafter is required to ensure the continued, required level of physical and mental health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Incumbent must pass, within 30 days of being hired and annually thereafter, a physical agility test IAW AR 190-56, Chapter 2.
- This position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) and has been designated by the Department of Army as critical to the national or internal security.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56 to include the requirement to wear a uniform and maintain a high state of uniform appearance and personal hygiene.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
