Job Title: Cost Account Manager (CAM) - Software Project Engineer
Position Type: Contract to Hire
Compensation: $80,000 to 134,000 annually
Location: St. Louis, MO (onsite 5 days a week)

A leading aerospace and defense organization is seeking a Software Project Engineer / Cost Account Manager (CAM) to lead Operational Flight Program (OFP) software teams supporting cruise missile and direct attack weapon systems.
This role blends technical leadership with program-level accountability, coordinating cross-functional teams, managing the software development lifecycle, and ensuring fielded software meets strict performance, safety, cost, and schedule requirements.
The team is hiring across multiple experience levels (Associate and Experienced).
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and coordinate technical execution for OFP software teams and related integration activities
• Own Cost Account Management (CAM) responsibilities for assigned software scope
• Oversee budgets, monitor earned value performance, and deliver objective forecasts
• Maintain and defend the performance measurement baseline
• Collect and validate cost and schedule data
• Calculate and analyze EVM metrics including CPI, SPI, ETC, and EAC
• Identify root causes for cost and schedule variances and implement corrective actions
• Drive re-planning efforts as needed to maintain program objectives
• Provide clear program and technical status updates to leadership and stakeholders
• Collaborate closely with systems engineering, test, quality assurance, supply chain, and business teams
• Ensure software delivery aligns with scope, schedule, cost, and contractual requirements
• Mentor and develop early-career engineers
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and technical excellence
• Develop Statements of Work (SOW) supporting R&D, ongoing programs, and new business
• Coordinate SOW approvals and manage scope changes, assessing cost and schedule impacts
• Lead Agile ceremonies including team scrums
• Partner with product managers and business teams to define product vision, roadmap, and backlog priorities
• Align product roadmaps with strategic objectives and stakeholder needs
• Prepare and deliver technical and program reviews (e.g., PDR, CDR) and monthly status reports
• Support contractual deliverables and provide EVM status reporting
• Monitor project budgets and drive programs to successful outcomes
• Engage in all aspects of program planning and execution
• Maintain awareness of Agile best practices and industry trends
Required Qualifications
• Experience serving as a Cost Account Manager (CAM), including ownership of budgets and performance measurement baselines
• Experience tracking cost and schedule performance and producing ETC and EAC forecasts
• Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM), including data collection, validation, and performance reporting
Preferred Qualifications
• 3 or more years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, computer science, or related technical field
• 5 or more years of experience in product development
• 5 or more years of experience in program management, project management, engineering, or training services
• Experience supporting military or Department of Defense customers
• Experience within defense or other high-reliability industries
• Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle, configuration management, and integration/test practices for embedded or flight software
• Outstanding communication, presentation, and leadership skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Ability to manage competing stakeholder priorities
• Proficiency with project management tools and technologies
• Understanding of business value and ROI associated with product features and functionality
