INDUS supports the planning, coordination, and installation activities of Combat System and Command, Control, Communications, Computer, and Intelligence (C5I) Systems in aircraft carriers, and other strike group or strike force units (including but not limited to LHA, LHD, LPD, and other L-Class units). Our team is directly responsible for supporting the planning, budgeting, and execution of New Construction (SCN) testing and modernization efforts in support of the Modernization and Installation Department (N Department), Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Port Hueneme Division (PHD).

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Technical Writer is responsible for drafting and updates to material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance for the Modernization and Installation Department (N Department), Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Port Hueneme Division (PHD) on the CVN/L-Class Support Services contract. This position is located in Port Hueneme, CA.

What You'll Do
  • Develop Overall Combat System Operability Tests (OCSOTs), Combat System Operability Tests (CSOTs), and related combat system documentation for various ship classes, including Aircraft Carriers (CVN), Landing Ship Docks (LSD), and Landing Helicopter Assault (LHA) vessels.
  • Verify and validate combat system documentation onboard CVN and L-class ships during availability periods.
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to update and maintain accurate combat system documentation.
  • Participate in the binding and distribution of OCSOTs for delivery to test sites as reference material.
  • Attend test locations alongside Test Developers and Test Directors to observe Overall Combat System Operability Tests and collect redline edits.
  • Implement redlines to ensure OCSOTs and CSOTs remain current and accurate.
  • Standardize content across multiple platforms and media for consistency.
  • Collect user feedback and incorporate updates to improve documentation quality.
  • Support Amphibious Assault Ship programs for the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Port Hueneme Division (PHD), Ship Defense and Expeditionary Warfare Department, Amphibious Combat Systems.
  • Bid and proposal support if requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • An active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
  • HS Diploma required.
  • Three (3) years of experience writing and editing technical documents.
  • Ability to travel and work aboard ship.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan workload and meet established deadlines.
  • The individual must be able to clearly and concisely articulate technical subject matter both written and verbally.
  • Other duties as assigned and/or proposal development support.
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Travel Required ~10% travel required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Leadership, or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Comfortable presenting project status and work progress to senior program personnel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Visio and Adobe Acrobat for documentation and diagramming.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to plan, coordinate, and execute project activities on schedule.
  • Strong self-initiative and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Skilled at briefing senior-level Navy personnel effectively.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking.
  • The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as in performing regular shop activities, inspections, or to observe and study operations in an industrial or comparable work area or on-board ships, submarines, and in weapon facilities.


INDUS aims to provide a competitive compensation package, including a strong pay for performance rewards approach. The expected base pay range for this position is $72,000. - $85,000. This position is eligible to participate in our corporate 401(k) and Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) programs, and may be eligible for performance bonuses, and other rewards and benefits (see more about our compensation package and benefits offered at Culture @ INDUS | INDUS Technology). The pay range for this role considers job-related knowledge, skills, work location, education and training, and certifications.
