Software Engineer II | Schriever AFB, CO | $60k - $105k | Secret with the ability to obtain TS/SCI

OVERVIEW

Caribou Thunder is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our team in Schriever Space Force Base (SSFB), Colorado. The qualified applicant will become part of offers opportunities to support the U.S. Missile Defense System through the development of Modeling and Simulation applications used in warfighter training and exercises, concept evaluation, developmental engineering, testing and verification, and assessment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, test, document, and integrate software features using object-oriented programming languages such as C++ and/or Java.
  • Work within a Linux operating system environment to support simulation development efforts.
  • Develop and implement software models to represent Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) element capabilities.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development life cycle, including analysis, design, coding, testing, integration, and deployment.
  • Collaborate within a team using Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders, including MDST customers, to provide technical support, gather requirements, and present technical briefings.
  • Contribute to warfighter simulation products used for training, concept analysis, and system evaluations.
  • Support event and training operations, which may include travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Utilize tools such as the Atlassian suite (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket) to manage tasks, documentation, and source code.
  • Apply and expand knowledge in the domains of missile defense, infrared space surveillance, and modeling and simulation systems.
    Qualifications
    Software Engineer I (60-78k):
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university.
  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming languages such as C, C++, or Java.
  • Understanding of the software development life cycle.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Proficiency or hands-on experience with C++ or Java.
  • Experience in full-cycle software development including analysis, design, coding, testing, and integration.
  • Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket).
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective team collaboration and stakeholder interaction.
  • Knowledge or experience in: Missile defense systems, infrared space surveillance, modeling and simulation development
  • Experience with agile software development methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
    Software Engineer II (90-105k):
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of related experience, OR a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related experience.
  • Experience developing software in object-oriented programming languages such as C, C++, or Java.
  • Understanding of the software development life cycle.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Government DoD Secret or Top Secret security clearance.
  • Proficiency in C++ or Java.
  • Experience in software development including analysis, design, coding, testing, and integration.
  • Experience using the Atlassian Tool Suite (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective collaboration with technical teams and customers.
  • Knowledge or experience in one or more of the following: Missile defense domain knowledge, infrared space surveillance, modeling and simulation development
  • Experience with agile software development methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
