Duties
Help
  • You will perform clerical work and administrative duties in support of the work of the department head or senior level management.
  • You will use office automation products and systems such as Microsoft Office products, and travel management systems to accomplish secretarial functions.
  • You will establish priorities, schedule, reschedule, or refuse appointments without prior approval and must accept or decline invitations to meetings, using initiative and discretion.
  • You will arrange meetings and appointments that may involve a wide range of agency activities or other agencies beyond the Department Head's immediate organization.
  • You will receive and screen visitors, phone calls and email from shipyard managers, NAVSEA officials, and military visitors for the Department Head, or other entities.
  • You will review correspondence or other documents for completeness, clarity of expression, format, adherence to stated departmental and shipyard policy, and grammatical correctness prior to presentation to the Department Head for signature.
  • You will compile and issue various weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
  • You will make arrangements for conferences, and notify attendees of the date, time, place, and subject matter.
  • You will input time daily and oversee time and attestation administration to support the department.
  • You will establish and maintain files in accordance with the Records Management requirements.
  • You will provide basic supply management (ordering and receipt).
  • You will perform basic budget tracking (such as expenditures, balances, awards, etc.).
  • You will use tact, discretion, and knowledge of departmental policies, programs and organization workflow, and communication lines to accomplish liaison duties between the Department Head and their subordinates and other departmental personnel.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
Qualifications

This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.

GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: providing secretarial support using office automation products and systems to schedule appointments, prepare correspondence and reports, coordinate events, or identify and adjust priorities for the efficient execution of secretarial function.

GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing office support functions using office automation software to maintain and adjust a calendar, draft and edit correspondence, or maintain records for the support of reliable administrative services.

Education

In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

GS-08:
Successful completion of two full years of graduate level education that is directly related to the position being filled

or

Combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.

GS-07:
Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education that is directly related to the position being filled

or

Combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
