• You will perform structural firefighting duties at a large industrial facility, station, or installation where the structures, equipment, and operations present complex and hazardous firefighting situations.
• You will work as a member of a crew whose primary purpose is to control and extinguish fires, rescue individuals endangered by fire, reduces or eliminate potential fire hazards, preforms confined space, above and below grade and high angle rescue.
• You will respond as a member of a Hazardous Materials response team for the purpose of containment, control and mitigation of spill or release and provide emergency medical services.
• You will control and extinguish fires by operating a hose, ladder, hydrant and/or rescuing endangered people.
• You will operate pumps, foam generators, boom nozzles, and other related equipment.
• You will perform as an Emergency Medical technician, respond to medical emergencies, analyze the situation, initiating a variety of emergency medical procedures or pre-established protocols.
• You will administer emergency medical care performing Basic Life Support tasks.
• You will communicate with medical facilities providing information regarding victim's conditions, vital signs, temperature, etc.
• You will assist in the operation of firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers and aerial ladder trucks.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift; note some safety equipment may weigh 50-60 pounds.
• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
• This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
• You are required to be certified as a FIREFIGHTER II by the Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard.
• You must obtain a current State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Life Support (NREMT-B) certification.
• You are required to possess a valid state driver's license.
• You must be certified in the use of a respirator.
• You are required to participate in the mandatory physical fitness program.
• You are required to move, lift, and load people weighing in excess of 180 pounds.

Qualifications

GS-04
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: proficiency in operating both basic and specialized firefighting tools, such as ladders, rescue tools, and nozzles, while understanding fire control principles and firefighting strategies, including handling hazardous environments. Respond to hazardous material releases, ensuring protection of people, property, and the environment. Applying procedures for maintaining and inspecting firefighting vehicles and equipment, while also utilizing effective search and rescue techniques.
Certification Requirements
The following certification levels are the minimum qualification standard for the position. Individuals must be certified at these levels before being eligible to fill the grade and/or position.
Proboard or IFSAC:

• Firefighter I and II
• Hazmat Awareness
• Hazmat Operations

GS-05
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: operating both basic and specialized firefighting tools, including ladders, rescue tools, and nozzles, and understands fire control principles, strategies, and techniques for hazardous environments. Trained in responding to hazardous material releases, using protective gear and control equipment to stop or contain the release. Applying procedures to maintain, inspect, and test firefighting vehicles and equipment, and utilize effective search and rescue strategies.
Certification Requirements
The following certification levels are the minimum qualification standard for the position. Individuals must be certified at these levels before being eligible to fill the grade and/or position.
Proboard or IFSAC:

• Firefighter I and II
• Hazmat Awareness

• Hazardous Materials Technician

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Applicants MUST provide all relevant transcripts needed to verify education substitution for specialized experience.

In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify based on education OR equivalent combination of experience and education, as follows:

GS-04
Successful completion of a 2-year course of study in an accredited college or university in Fire Training, Fire Science, or other related fields of study

OR

Possess a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. Percentage of the required education plus percentage of the required experience must equal one hundred percent.

GS-05
Successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university with major study in Fire Science, Fire Training, or other related fields of study

OR

Possess a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. Percentage of the required education plus percentage of the required experience must equal one hundred percent.
