Duties

  • You will serve as a member of the entry control/vehicle inspection team which conducts private and commercial vehicles inspections.
  • You will be an integral part of the inspection process by ensuring the safety of the inspectors.
  • You will have the ability to retain all persons found to be unauthorized to enter the installation.
  • You will make sound decisions regarding vehicle entry control issues based on experience and good judgment.
  • You will have the ability to direct vehicles and pedestrian traffic during emergencies and normal rush hour traffic to ensure that the entry control process is run in accordance of established procedures and naval regulations.
  • You will take action in the event of emergency situations to include but not limited to accidents/incidents/drills, fire or other natural disasters, motor vehicle/industrial accidents, political demonstrations, Hostage/terrorist situations, etc.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination and be required to pass a Physical Agility Test prior to employment and annually thereafter.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with grooming standards.

Qualifications

GS-05:
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

*Experience applying federal instructions and regulation governing the procedures to conduct private and commercial vehicle inspections
*Experience using detection devices used to inspect private and commercial vehicles to ensure the inspected vehicles are safe to entry the naval installation
*Experience communicating effectively, both orally and in writing
*Experience persuasively presenting facts as a result of individuals who may have a different point of view

GS-04:
Your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months of general and 6 months of specialized experience. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

*Experience applying federal instructions and regulation governing the procedures to conduct private and commercial vehicle inspections
*Experience using detection devices used to inspect private and commercial vehicles to ensure the inspected vehicles are safe to entry the naval installation
*Experience communicating effectively, both orally and in writing
*Experience persuasively presenting facts as a result of individuals who may have a different point of view

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

This work requires, on a regular and recurring basis, long periods of standing, walking, driving, bending, stooping, reaching and similar activities.

Work is performed for the most part is outdoors in the heat, cold, rain, and wind during the hours of daylight and darkness, with work in or under extremely dangerous conditions. The work environment regularly involves high risked with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environment stress which requires a range of safety and other precautions. The incumbent may also work in areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include, but are not limited to fumes, noise, and heat.

Call back and emergency overtime may be requirements of this position.

Work may includes assignment to train second, third or rotating shifts or weekend and holidays.
