Northrop Grumman Space Sector is searching for a Chief Engineer (T7) to join the Space Based Interceptor team within Launch Vehicles business unit located in Chandler, AZ.
In this job, you will join the staff of Chief Engineers and Program Engineering Managers that support program execution of ongoing interceptor development activities including test, and flight operations. You provide technical oversight of a missile interceptor development and ensure proper allocation and coordination of engineering resources through an IPT structure. Lead the development and execution of technical reviews. Team with IPT leads to achieve efficient, effective, and innovative Engineering solutions. Ensure subsystem and supporting technology development achieves program success and look for opportunities to leverage common design and products.
The Chief Engineer leads the technical management a Space Based Interceptor. The Chief Engineer guides a multi-disciplinary team that defines the performance requirements, design, qualification, test, and production of interceptors. Provides technical leadership of the multidisciplinary engineering team to successfully complete the required design and mission reviews, ensures compliance with both internal and customer requirements, executes timely completion of customer deliverables, and leads resolution of significant technical issues. The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge regarding missile interceptor system technologies, operations, and the ability to rapidly make risk-based decisions while working in a fast-paced development program. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in resolving complex problems are essential.
Role Description & Responsibilities:
This position reports to the Launch Services Business Unit (LSBU) Chief Engineer and supports the SBI Program Manager. Directs all phases of programs from inception through completion.

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Primary Level Salary Range: $183,200.00 - $274,800.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

- Help the team achieve 100% mission success.
- Support Program Management team with broad technical experience and down-and-in technical guidance to support PEMs and product specific chief engineers.
- Influence and review the design, test, and production of missile interceptor components in the areas of avionics, missile structures, propulsion, EO/IR sensors, or modeling & simulation.
- Maintain working relationships with the Customer, providing timely communication and engaging to resolve technical questions posed by the Customer.
- Guide teams preparing for test and flight operations with rapid review of change engineering.
- Deliver quick and thorough resolution of non-conformances and other challenges that might arise, including leading failure investigations and presentation of findings to internal and customer review boards.
- Bring mature engineering leadership to the coordination and performance of internal reviews like ERB, CCB, IFRR and design reviews.
- Support and guide the definition and maturation of a missile technical maturation plan.
- Support Flight operations as Program CE at Launch Site.
- Ensure that designs and hardware builds meet all internal and Customer requirements, especially across engineering discipline boundaries. Provide justification and adjudicate through proper boards any deviations or waivers to such requirements.
- Perform other duties, as necessary, commensurate with the role of Program Chief Engineer.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 16 years of professional experience OR Master's degree with 14 years of professional experience OR PhD with 12 years of professional experience
- Candidates must have an active Top Secret security clearance.
- U.S. Citizen.
- Ability to Travel Occasionally (6-8 trips/year).
- Candidates must have a minimum of 7 years directly related experience in project management.
- Position is in Chandler, AZ and requires 100% on-site support.
- Direct internal as well as external customer interface experience.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication excellence with customers and all levels of management.
- Exceptional leader of a multi-disciplined team.
- Thorough understanding of design standards, procurement processes and configuration management.
- Ability to work under limited supervision and complete projects on time and on budget.
- Multi-disciplinary engineering experience -or- system engineering experience.
- Perform other duties, as necessary, commensurate with the role of Chief Engineer.
Experience Preferred:
- Candidates will have a minimum of 10 years of directly related experience on missile programs.
- Experience with missile systems including field operations.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: avionics, missile structures, propulsion, EO/IR sensors, modeling & simulation of interceptor subsystems.
- Track record of translating high-level interceptor system performance requirements into A- and B- level specifications for sub-systems.
