Position Description: Network Engineer
**Palantir experience required**
Position Summary
The Network Engineer plays a critical role in the design, implementation, management, and maintenance of the network infrastructure for the organization’s headquarters element. This individual ensures the data and communication networks are secure, reliable, and optimized to support evolving operational needs. The engineer collaborates closely with IT, communications, and security personnel to provide a robust and scalable foundation for enterprise applications and mission-critical activities.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and Architecture:
Architect network systems—including LAN, WAN, wireless, and cloud integration—to meet organizational performance, resilience, and security requirements.
Select and deploy technologies from industry leaders such as Cisco and Juniper, and leverage cloud-based networking solutions as appropriate for hybrid environments.
• Implementation and Optimization:
Install, configure, and maintain networking hardware, such as switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
Ability to integrate multiple streams of information across integrated platforms including AI platforms (i.e. Palantir MSS).
Monitor and optimize network performance using diagnostic tools, automation scripts, and best practices for data flow management and traffic analysis.
Lead network upgrades, migration projects, and capacity planning initiatives to support organizational growth and agility.
• Security and Compliance:
Enforce cybersecurity best practices, including network segmentation, access controls, encryption, and compliance with relevant standards (NIST, DISA STIGs, etc.).
Proactively identify vulnerabilities and work with cybersecurity teams to mitigate risks and implement corrective actions.
• Troubleshooting and Support:
Diagnose and resolve network incidents, performance bottlenecks, and connectivity issues.
Collaborate with IT and communications staff in response to outages or degradations, providing root cause analysis and preventive recommendations.
• Documentation and Collaboration:
Maintain up-to-date network diagrams, technical documentation, and change logs.
Educate and support organizational users and junior technical staff on network best practices, new tools, and policy compliance.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• 3+ years’ experience in data and network engineering roles, including network design, implementation, and operational support in enterprise, corporate, or government environments.
• Proficient with major network systems and platforms, such as Cisco IOS/NX-OS and Juniper Junos, and experience with at least one cloud-based networking solution (e.g., AWS, Azure, or equivalent).
• Advanced Palantir MSS technical skills.
• Demonstrated ability to administer routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless networks.
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, network segmentation, and security protocols.
• Foundational understanding of cybersecurity practices as they relate to network design and maintenance.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Excellent teamwork, communication, and customer service orientation.
Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced certifications such as CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate), CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional), JNCIS/JNCIP (Juniper), CompTIA Network+, or comparable recognition.
• Prior experience supporting network infrastructure within a military, government, or critical-infrastructure environment.
• Experience with network scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Ansible) to drive efficiency and streamline network operations.
• Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture concepts, SDN (software-defined networking), and network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark).
• Advanced knowledge of cloud networking architectures, hybrid networks, and secure remote access solutions (e.g., VPN, SASE).
• Experience mentoring junior staff or leading small technical teams in project-based settings.
