Position Description: SFI S8 – SATCOM Specialist

Position Overview
The SFI S8 - SATCOM Specialist serves as the subject matter expert in satellite communications for the Space Forces Indo-Pacific (SFI) team. This position directly enables Joint Force operations across the Indo-Pacific theater by ensuring resilient, secure, and mission-effective satellite communications. This specialist is responsible for developing, assessing, and enhancing both military (MILSAT) and commercial satellite (COMSAT) communication architectures to provide robust, mission-ready capabilities that support operational and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities
• Blue Force SATCOM Architecture Development
o Develop and maintain a comprehensive SATCOM architecture “site picture” for blue forces throughout the Indo-Pacific area of responsibility, integrating both MILSAT and COMSAT assets.
o Continuously update architectural overviews to reflect new capabilities, changing operational environments, and updated requirements.
• Operational SATCOM Assessment
o Collaborate closely with the USINDOPACOM SATCOM office, INDOPACOM service component staffs, Space Command Staff, S4S and CSpOC, DISA, and the Regional SATCOM Support Centers (RSSC) to assess, validate, and refine theater-wide SATCOM requirements in line with vetted operational demands.
o Ensure alignment between communications capabilities and existing/future mission needs.
o Coordinate with cyber operations staff on SATCOM cybersecurity, defensive measures, and cyber-physical resilience
• Capability Research and Recommendations
o Conduct thorough research and technical analysis on emerging SATCOM technologies, trends, and assets (both military and commercial).
o Develop forward-looking recommendations for procurement, integration, or enhancement of SATCOM capabilities to support evolving theater operations.
o Prepare and present findings, briefings, and decision papers to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
• Demonstrated experience (typically 3+ years) in satellite communications planning, coordination, or system management—preferably within military, government, or high-security commercial environments.
• In-depth technical knowledge of MILSAT and COMSAT systems, including architecture principles and component capabilities.
• Proven ability to analyze operational requirements and translate them into actionable technical solutions.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Active security clearance (or ability to obtain and maintain one).
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
• Prior experience collaborating with USINDOPACOM or in Indo-Pacific defense planning.
• Familiarity with blue force tracking/architecture tools and situational awareness platforms.
• Experience briefing or advising senior leadership on technical communications issues or architectures.
• Knowledge of future trends in satellite communication, resilience measures, and emerging commercial SATCOM markets.
