As a Command and Control (C2) Operational Subject Matter Expert, you will serve as the critical bridge between operational warfighters, mission planners, and technical development teams supporting next-generation digital modernization and mission systems initiatives.

You will translate real-world operational experience into actionable requirements, inform digital transformation efforts, and ensure emerging C2 capabilities are aligned with warfighter needs across air, space, cyber, and joint domains.

This role supports mission integration, operational architecture development, capability fielding, and modernization initiatives aligned with Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) concepts and evolving DoD digital ecosystem strategies.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the operational voice of the warfighter across C2 modernization programs.
  • Translate operational concepts, TTPs, and mission workflows into system requirements, user stories, and integration priorities.
  • Advise program leadership on mission impacts, operational risk, and capability gaps.
  • Support development and refinement of CONOPS, operational architectures, and mission threads.
  • Participate in mission engineering efforts, digital twin environments, modeling & simulation activities, and operational assessments.
  • Lead or support operational test events, exercises, and experimentation campaigns.
  • Facilitate collaboration between operators, acquisition professionals, systems engineers, and software development teams.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for digital transformation initiatives, including cloud-enabled C2, data integration, edge processing, and AI/ML-enabled decision support.
  • Support briefings to senior DoD stakeholders and flag-level leadership.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, roadmapping, and capability transition efforts.


Required Qualifications:
  • 15+ years of operational experience in Air Force, Space Force, Joint, or Combatant Command environments.
  • Direct experience in Command & Control (C2), battle management, mission planning, or operational integration roles.
  • Experience supporting operational exercises, wargames, or real-world contingency operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate operational needs into technical requirements.
  • Strong understanding of joint operations and multi-domain integration.


Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting next-generation mission systems initiatives.
  • Familiarity with digital engineering, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), or mission thread analysis.
  • Experience working within DoD acquisition or program office environments.
  • Exposure to cloud-enabled architectures, DevSecOps, or AI/ML-enabled decision support tools.
  • Graduate degree in Systems Engineering, Operations Research, National Security, or related field.


Location: Flexible, with priority posting in Ohio (OH), Virginia (VA), and Alabama (AL).

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree with 15 years' related experience; Master's degree preferred.


Required Security Clearance:
  • Must have an Active Top-Secret Clearance with SCI Eligibility. Due to clearance requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
