We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support the AFLCMC/HNJ. This role operates at the intersection of software development and project execution within a DoD environment. It is suited for professionals who understand software development and deployment in the DoD ecosystem but prefer to focus on technical leadership, program execution, and strategy rather than hands-on coding.
The ideal candidate is capable of articulating complex technical ideas to diverse stakeholders, balancing innovation with DoD operational constraints, and ensuring programs meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide engineering leadership, technical direction, and subject matter expertise to support Air Force program objectives.
• Collaborate with IPT Engineering Lead and cross-functional teams to integrate engineering expertise into lifecycle sustainment planning.
• Lead/support frontend and backend web development and deployment to web servers.
• Prepare and review technical documentation, milestone decisions, and engineering evaluations in accordance with DoD standards.
• Advise program leadership on engineering solutions that meet cost, schedule, and performance targets.
• Identify technical risks, propose mitigation strategies, and ensure solutions are practical and deployable for warfighter needs.
Required Qualifications:
• Current Secret clearance and ability to obtain Top Secret with SCI.
• Master’s degree in a STEM field, preferably engineering.
• 10+ years of software engineering and program management experience.
• Proficiency with multiple operating systems (UNIX, Linux, etc.) and diverse software languages (Java, XML, memory-safe languages, scripting languages, markup languages, frontend/backend languages).
• Experience with frontend and backend web development and web application deployment.
• Familiarity with Integrated Development Environments (IDE) and tools (VI/VIM, Jupyter, VS Code, Eclipse, GitHub).
• Experience with DoD program documentation (SOW, CDRL, technical evaluations, Integrated Master Schedules).
Desired Skills:
• Experience with Zero Trust Architecture environments.
• Familiarity with modern development pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
• Knowledge of DoD development processes (ATO, CTF, eMASS/RMF, NIPR/SIPR).
• Cybersecurity or development certifications (CompTIA Security+ required within six months of hire).
• Experience in DoD and/or Air Force classified environments.
• Prior military service, particularly mid-to-senior grade officer (O-4 to O-6), is advantageous.
• Quality assurance experience (reporting, tracking, issue resolution).
• Experience with virtual environments (containerization, virtual machines).
• Project Management Professional (PMP) or DAWIA certifications a plus.
