We are looking for you to join our team as a Mechanical Engineering Manager 2 at our Sykesville, MD location with Northrop Grumman. You will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of the Sykesville Engineering Organization in the Power / Control Systems Operating Unit.

What You Will Get to Do:
The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for providing functional leadership and direction to the engineers supporting our Power/Control Systems (P/CS) Operating Unit (OU). Sykesville's engineering organization is program aligned. Staff will consist of approximately 12 to 14 multidisciplinary design engineers aligned to a narrow set of programs supporting the OU. Responsibilities include leading a diverse team of engineers in design, development, test, delivery and support of mission critical warfighter systems. Incumbent will also lead mechanical management efforts for the campus. Mechanical engineering efforts for the site include electronics packaging of high power and control electronics for use in harsh military environments, incorporating innovative design solutions to thermal and structural challenges, as well as optimized solutions for the design of Welded and Machined/Bolted cabinets. The position responsibilities also include management of time keeping, performance reviews, staffing and resource planning, training, and team engagement for the team. Minimal travel is expected.
The Mechanical Engineering Manager researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Provide project and technical oversight of design activities performed by the group
• Prepare cost estimates, provide proposal inputs, and review proposal content for both internal and external customers
• Increasing design engineering competencies through employee development and strategic hiring
• Balancing employee needs with business goals
• Provide ownership of and direction to the design processes used in the group
• Basic understanding of the Design, Manufacturing and Test Integration process
• Support department initiatives, forecasting and recruiting, technology roadmap creation, and champion continuous process improvements
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 8 years of engineering experience; OR a Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 6 years of engineering experience; OR a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 4 years of engineering experience
• US Citizenship, with the ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance. Interim secret clearance required to start.
• Strong fundamentals in Mechanical Design Engineering
• Experience in functional/people management
• Production issues resolution
• Strong leadership qualities, including excellent communication and collaboration, team engagement, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Experience as a IPT Lead, SEIT Lead, Chief Engineer or other demonstrated engineering leadership role related to program execution
• Understanding of electronic power and control system principals of operation and design
• Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), requirements development, or technical project management experience preferred
• Understanding and knowledge of Agile (SCRUM) techniques and activities.
• Knowledge of Design Engineering processes, procedures and work instructions required to support both management and engineering tasks
• Experience with proposals and Earned Value
• Secret clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,800.00 - $209,800.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
