The Naval & Oceanic Systems business unit headquartered in Annapolis, MD is seeking dependable individuals willing to work in a collaborative environment and that are interested in expanding their horizons. The Mechanical Engineering Department is seeking a Staff Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.
Essential Functions:
The position involves concept development, problem solving, technical planning, design development, and hardware integration and testing. The applicant will be responsible for translating customer requirements into system solutions that consider technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Experience with underwater or naval systems-such as torpedoes, towed vehicles, Uncrewed Underwater Vehicles (UUVs), Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), acoustic communications, sonar systems, and submarine interfacing-is highly valued, as the role will also include work on undersea-domain systems programs.
The candidate should be skilled in teamwork, task prioritization, and multitasking to achieve project goals. They must also be adept at analyzing complex problems and developing solutions, with strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Primary Level Salary Range: $169,000.00 - $253,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

- BS degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical or equivalent STEM) and a minimum of 12 years of experience in mechanical engineering; or MS degree with 10 years of experience; or PhD with 8 years of experience.
- Ability to work on-site at Annapolis, MD campus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, supporting multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in using common engineering design, production, analysis, and office tools.
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis tools, bolted joint analysis, and structural hand calculations.
- Experience using 3D CAD software to create and review models.
- US citizen and the ability to obtain a TS/SCI and pass a polygraph.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with underwater/naval systems such as torpedoes, towed vehicles, Uncrewed Underwater Vehicles (UUV), Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV), Submarines, etc.
- Experience designing hardware and structures subjected to long-term sea water submersion such as pressure vessels.
- A working knowledge of environmental corrosion and methods used to mitigate its effects.
- Experience with interpreting and applying GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2009).
- Experience with manufacturing design elements including: welding, machining, casting, and forging.
- Proficiency in conducting Finite Element Analysis, bolted joint analysis, and structural hand calculations.
- Active TS/SSBI/SCI clearance with current polygraph.
