Overview
LMI is seeking a highly motivated Library Science Intern for Summer 2026 to support information management, research services, and knowledge organization initiatives in a dynamic federal environment. This internship provides an opportunity to apply library and information science principles to real-world challenges, enhance access to critical information resources, and contribute to mission-driven outcomes that support LMI's government clients.
This role is dedicated to supporting our USPS customer.
*This position is currently full-time onsite at the customer's Washington DC or Northern VA office.

Responsibilities
- Support cataloging, classification, and metadata management of physical and digital collections.
- Conduct research and respond to reference inquiries using internal databases and external information resources.
- Assist with records management, archival processing, and digitization initiatives.
- Help maintain and update knowledge repositories, document libraries, and information portals.
- Apply information organization standards and best practices to improve discoverability and access.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and timely information delivery.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking Bachelor's or Master's program in Library Science, Information Science, Information Management, or related field
- Available full-time for 10-12 weeks starting end of May 2026
- Familiarity with cataloging standards (MARC, Dublin Core) and classification systems
- Experience with academic, government, or enterprise database research
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- U.S. Citizenship required; must be eligible for a security clearance
Desired Qualifications
- Experience supporting records management or archival projects
- Familiarity with digital asset management or enterprise content management platforms
- Experience with metadata creation, taxonomy development, or controlled vocabularies
- Background in federal, academic, or special library environments
