Senior Principal Engineer - Mission Operations Sustainment Systems
Senior Level | Broomfield, CO | Active Top Secret Clearance Required
You've operated satellites on console. You've supported launch and commissioning. You've resolved anomalies in real time. Now lead mission sustainment efforts that ensure space systems remain operational, resilient, and mission-ready.
A Day in the Life - What you'll do
• Lead telemetry trending, mission performance analysis, calibration, and sustainment maintenance of spacecraft and ground systems
• Support on-orbit operations, assess satellite and ground system health, and drive anomaly investigation and resolution
• Develop and maintain mission operations products including command execution scripts, alarm limits, mission system constraints, operator procedures, and training materials
• Support launch, commissioning, operations readiness activities, rehearsals, and mission integration efforts
• Collaborate across engineering, integration, and operations teams to deploy new capabilities and product releases
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to mission operations engineers
• Present technical findings and mission updates to leadership and customers
• Work on-site five days per week with potential local travel
Required Qualifications
• Active Top Secret security clearance
• Ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI access
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field from an accredited institution
• 8+ years of relevant experience in satellite or space mission operations
• Experience with on-console satellite operations
• Experience with spacecraft commissioning
• Experience with mission management and command and control systems
• Experience with mission data processing
• Experience with ground systems and infrastructure
• Experience supporting launch and mission integration activities
• Experience with discrepancy reporting, change management, and anomaly response processes
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to interface effectively with technicians, senior engineers, leadership, and cross-functional teams
• Ability to lead small teams and mentor junior engineers
• Ability to maintain a regular, predictable on-site work schedule
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience developing mission operations products such as scripts, alarm limits, constraints, procedures, and training materials
• Experience in software, hardware, integration, test, quality, or configuration/data management engineering disciplines
• Experience using simulators, test benches, or FlatSats
• Knowledge of cloud development environments
• Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS
• Experience using Atlassian tools including Confluence and Jira
