What you'll do
The Project Engineer role for the Advanced Concepts & Technology (ACT) team is responsible for the planning and execution of Government Services and Solutions (GSS) future capabilities. This includes the early development (TRL-1 to TRL-4) and initial demonstration and customer validation of new solutions. The Project Engineer for ACT works with principal engineers to take future concepts and ideas and turn them into concrete product and solution development plans. The PE for ACT then works with development and test engineers to produce detailed schedules and delivery milestones, establish required budgets, and execute the projects that have been prioritized for the GSS business.
This role is also accountable to GSS business leadership for the development of and reporting on key metrics that will be used to track progress towards the established GSS strategic plan. These metrics connect customer success outcomes to internal engineering and finance metrics using established reporting processes.

Salary range
$131,000.00 - $206,500.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $162,500.00- $243,500.00/ annually

The day-to-day
- Execution lead for the integration, test and deployment of new government solutions
- Ensuring customer technical requirements and expectations for satellite communication modems, terminal equipment and software are met, and exceeded
- Applying project engineering skills to contribute to a multi-function engineering team through verbal and written interactions with the customer, industry partners, and Viasat senior leadership
- Lead projects that require coordinated teams across the government and industry partners
What you'll need
- 10+ years' proven experience as a Project Engineer or Systems Engineer
- Proven ability to work in high pressure situations while maintaining professionalism
- Ability to present technical details at an abstracted level
- Proven experience leading and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams including, but not limited to, Business Development, Systems, Software, Product, Test both internally and externally
- Demonstrated skills with working between high level requirements and low-level system specifications
- Engineering gate process experience
- Contribute to proposal efforts and participate in ongoing business development
- Experience with military platform integration and certification
- Demonstrated understanding and experience contributing across product life cycle
