Duties
1. Communicates vision for distance learning programs, translating broad college objectives and program goals into concrete objectives, plans priorities, and assignments within the directorate. Identifies, advocates, and allocates resources required to accomplish work activities or projects to meet mission requirements, objectives, and priorities of programs in the directorate. Maintains overall accountability for distance learning curriculum development and execution in support of the AFGC mission and program objectives. Provides Dean's guidance to ensure the distance learning program curricula meet the academic requirements for JPME Phase 1 accreditation, regional accreditation, and higher-level guidance, as applicable. Maintains currency on core requirements and comprehensive standards and trends within accreditation relating to distance learning. Provides direction for the coordination of the design development, execution, and evaluation of distance learning programs courses in support of the AFGC mission and program objectives.
2. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Serves as 1st and 2nd level supervisor and in various personnel-management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. Selects or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignments in consideration of skills and qualifications, mission requirements, and EEO and diversity objectives. Develops, modifies, and/or interprets performance standards. Explains performance expectations to employees and provides regular feedback on strengths and weaknesses. Holds employees responsible for satisfactory completion of work assignments. Appraises subordinate workers performance ensuring consistency and equity in rating techniques. Recommends awards when appropriate and approves within grade increases and or step increases. Hears and resolves employee complaints and refers serious unresolved complaints
to higher level management. Initiates action to correct performance or conduct problems. Effects minor
disciplinary measures such as warnings and reprimands and recommends action in more serious disciplinary matters. Prepares documentation to support actions taken. Identifies employee developmental needs and provides or arranges for training (formal and on-the-job) to maintain and improve job performance. Encourages self-development. Approves master leave schedule assuring adequate coverage for peak workloads and traditional
holiday vacation time.
3: Responsible to the Commandant for implementing AFGC policies related to the selection, professional development and evaluation of all faculty members whose primary assignment is to the distance learning program. Advises the Commandant on matters relating to the compensation and retention of civilian faculty members whose primary assignment is to the distance learning program. Provides oversight of directorate faculty development activities related to orientation, research activities, curriculum development initiatives, new techniques, and technology applications in the distance learning curriculum. Serves as approval authority for faculty management contract.
4. Performs administrative support functions and special projects, as directed, to include service on internal or external committees, providing advice and counsel as appropriate. Establishes and maintains professional relationships with academic and professional colleagues in other DoD schools and organizations, civilian institutions, and business and industrial concerns related to distance learning. Maintains liaison with AU officials concerning educational matters related to distance learning. Attends meetings and participates in other organizations activities intended to advance the state of knowledge in distance learning. Performs other professional duties that may be required or assigned by the commandant/vice commandant.
5. Conducts and/or supervises original, scholarly research and promotes curriculum innovations. Pursues publication of research in professional journals, scholarly publications, or other commercial or government publications. Promotes dissemination of research results and curriculum innovations through participation in professional organizational activities and collaboration with other professional military education schools. Serves as advisor to students pursuing study, writing assignments, and/or research. Preparation of textbooks, case studies, monographs, book reviews, readings in GCPME course books, elective course materials, electronic-based educational tools, and histories of general intellectual merit are considered as part of publication record. Researches and evaluates emerging technologies to improve and enhance distance learning strategies.
