Amentum is seeking a Fire Prevention Inspector at Arnold AFB in Tullahoma, Tennessee. The primary purpose of this position is to perform fire prevention and inspection duties of on-base and geographically separated facilities to detect, reduce and/or eliminate fire hazards in areas preventing various levels of fire risk/expectancy. Provides fire prevention safety training for the base population.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Locates, isolates, and identifies actual or potential fire hazards and fire safety deficiencies, and initiates appropriate corrective action.
  • Inspects work sites where welding, cutting, brazing, and other types of hot work to be performed. Evaluates conditions, issues hot work permits when appropriate, and coordinates with other supporting agencies when required.
  • Provides fire prevention safety training to the base population and participates in development and presentation of all facets of the annual fire prevention plan.
  • Inspects & identifies deficiencies on a variety of fire protection systems, many of which are complex or designed for a specific operation or hazardous condition, (e.g., carbon dioxide, automatic fire detection and sprinkler etc.) and presents issues to managers for correction.
  • Uses building codes, and various manuals and specifications, prepares reports, conducts fire investigations, evaluates hazardous conditions, and provides recommendations to correct hazards
  • Applies a practical knowledge of codes, standards, building plans review, and engineering principles as applicable to life safety and fire prevention
  • Attends pre-construction conferences to brief contractors on their fire protection/prevention responsibilities while working on base and inspects structures during construction/renovation to ensure adherence to the terms of the contract in so far as fire safety aspects are concerned
  • Develops and maintains a variety of documentation such as fire prevention inspection schedules and facilities files on assigned facilities. Files include information on hazards, pre-fire plans, risk assessment codes (RAC), and regularly scheduled and special inspections conducted. Utilizes the Fire & Emergency Services Information Management System (FES-IMS) and other information management systems as directed.
  • Inspects, maintains, and replaces as necessary facility fire extinguishers
  • Maintains a valid driver's license and safely operates a motor vehicle
  • Performs work in accordance with the Performance Work Statement and applicable directives including but not limited to Department of War (DoW) and Department of the Air Force Instructions (DAFI), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards, and Company policies and procedures.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.


Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Minimum of three years of progressive experience as a full-time firefighter with a paid, professional firefighting force or equivalent experience and two years' experience as a fire prevention inspector.
  • To qualify, selectee must possess all certifications, to include prerequisites, which are required for a Fire Inspector in accordance with the DoD Instruction 6055.06M, DoD Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Certification Program.
  • Required certifications include HAZMAT Awareness; Fire Inspector II; Certifications must be from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (ProBoard), or Department of War (DoW).
  • Be or become trained and qualified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Must have the ability to wear protective clothing and equipment and perform strenuous tasks under adverse conditions.
  • Possess a valid state driver's license and must be able to obtain a state of Tennessee Class "D" driver's license immediately upon employment. Must become qualified to drive and operate all support vehicles.
  • Possess capability to attend and complete on- and off-site training courses and any certification required by the Air Force or the Company.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance. Applicants selected either must currently possess a Secret clearance or will be subject to a US Government Security Investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Position involves working inside and outside during all types of weather. It also involves office environment with no unusual hazards, constant sitting with occasional use of computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. Some positions involve work in environments (e.g., industrial areas, labs, outside locations, etc.) where mechanical equipment, etc. is installed, tested, analyzed/monitored, operated, and/or maintained. Equipment may be loud and noisy or have exposed moving components. Such positions may involve routine lifting up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling, and carrying, and constant use of vision and mental alertness is required. This classification may include managing hazardous materials or other environmental responsibilities.

Compensation Details:
$27.65 hourly
