Mechanical Supply Engineer II / III
Level II: 2+ Years | Level III: 5+ Years | Huntsville, AL | Secret Clearance Required
You ensure the hardware behind missile defense is built right, built fast, and built to win. Join Team Thunder and serve as the technical bridge between engineering design and supplier execution for mission-critical Ground Weapon Systems.
A Day in the Life - What you'll do
• Review and evaluate supplier mechanical and electro-mechanical designs, schematics, and manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and mission requirements
• Serve as the technical liaison between Programs, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality teams, and external suppliers
• Assess vendor specifications and translate engineering requirements into executable supplier deliverables
• Conduct non-conformance investigations, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions with suppliers
• Perform technical evaluations of supplier quotes, assess producibility, and support sourcing decisions through market research and cost benchmarking
• Support sustainment efforts by procuring replacement and repair parts while identifying solutions to mitigate system obsolescence
• Participate in supplier qualification, production readiness reviews, and technical audits
• Travel 10-25% to supplier and facility locations to support audits, readiness reviews, and technical discussions
Required Qualifications
Level II (Supply Engineer 2):
• Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 2+ years of relevant engineering experience
OR Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 0 years of experience
Level III (Principal Supply Engineer 3):
• Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 5+ years of relevant engineering experience
OR Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of experience
For Both Levels:
• Active, in-scope DoD Secret security clearance (required to start)
• Experience reviewing engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications
• Ability to translate engineering requirements into supplier deliverables
• Knowledge of mechanical and/or electro-mechanical systems and associated manufacturing processes
• Experience resolving technical challenges during design, development, or production phases
• Ability to operate effectively in a cross-functional engineering and supplier-facing environment
• Willingness to travel 10-25%
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering
• Experience working directly with suppliers on technical qualification, capability assessments, and production issue resolution
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality standards
• Familiarity with FAR/DFAR requirements
• Experience with Material Resource Planning (MRP/ERP) systems
• Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD modeling software
• Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
