Job Description
• The Tool Design Engineer is responsible for designing industrial machinery, production equipment, tools, dies, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and machine attachments used in manufacturing and experimental operations.
• The role requires strong consideration of accessibility, cost-effectiveness, mobility, and performance requirements.
• The engineer will demonstrate a thorough understanding and broad application of technical principles, theories, and concepts within the field.
• This position operates with a high degree of independence, determining and developing effective approaches to complex problems.
• The engineer will provide technical solutions to a wide range of challenging issues and serve as a key liaison between design, manufacturing, engineering, and tooling procurement teams.
• Responsibilities include ensuring quality, cost efficiency, and schedule adherence related to tool manufacturing and planning.
• Additionally, the engineer will lead initiatives to improve processes within the tool design and planning workflow.
• Proficiency in 3DX/CATIA is required for creating robust 3D designs and detailed 2D technical drawings.
Required Experience
• Recent minimum experience 1 year of design experience using CATIA V5 or 3DX.
• Minimum 7 years of experience designing a variety of assembly tools for aerospace vehicles or similar applications.
• Strong background in creating 2D technical design drawings (blueprints).
Desired Experience
• Hands-on tool fabrication experience.
• Experience with various types of tooling, including structural assembly tools, fixtures, drill jigs, and lift/transport tools.
• Experience authoring tool usage instructions or assembly work instructions.
• Manufacturing engineering or production floor support experience.
• Aircraft assembly experience.
• First article build experience.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) preferred.
