Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as the full-time dedicated Coordinator to design, implement, manage, and lead all aspects of an effective human performance training program at DEA Office of Training.
- Develop, validate, and maintain a Physical Training Assessment (PTA) directly linked to the official Physical Demands of a DEA Special Agent; provide technical justification establishing PTA standards as a bona fide occupational qualification per OPM guidelines.
- Create and document standardized procedures for DEA OT staff to conduct and record PTAs in a repeatable, controlled, and uniform manner.
- Lead execution of all Physical Tasks Tests (PTT) for BAT classes (initial on DOT 2, remedial on DOT 30, final on DOT 60) and assist the Tactical Training Unit with PTT administration for Defensive Tactics Instructor Courses.
- Deliver daily in-person instruction, testing, evaluation, and conditioning sessions focused on the five pillars (Resilience, Stress Mitigation, Sleep, Nutrition, Strength & Conditioning) and skill-related fitness for BATs and other OT students.
- Conduct expert-level body composition analysis, grip strength, Y-balance, knee-to-wall, single-leg lunge, hand-tap, and additional functional tests plus health, nutrition, stress, and sleep surveys to identify injury risk and deliver individualized corrective plans.
- Review existing physical training programs and deliver data-driven recommendations for improvement to enhance BATP effectiveness and graduation rates.
- Develop, manage, and annually review a comprehensive nutrition program in coordination with OT food services.
- Coordinate scheduling, logistics, facilities, and execution of 25 annual one- to three-day workshops (30-60 students) covering all five pillars; deliver at Quantico or domestic field offices (in-person preferred; virtual/hybrid acceptable).
- Oversee trainee access to and training on a ready-made mobile app/online portal for fitness tracking, food logging, recipes, mental tools, and conditioning programs; ensure personalized baseline reports are generated and delivered via the app at the start of each BAT class.
- Support and contribute to the real-time readiness dashboard, including individual reporting, monthly storyboards, quarterly reports, and annual summaries with actionable insights for OT leadership.
- Collect, monitor, analyze, and report validated performance data and program metrics; prepare quarterly and annual progress reports.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive library of training materials and aids for OT staff on all five pillars.
- Operate independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-demand environment while maintaining full compliance with DEA policies, safety standards, and program continuity.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in physical training, anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, motor skill development, fitness assessment, exercise prescription, behavior change, exercise physiology, nutrition, cardiovascular health, and risk management.
- Current Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification through NSCA.
- Experience in curriculum development and adult learning principles to design, develop and conduct courses in the field of health and physical fitness for law enforcement professionals.
- Knowledge of adult education theory and practice, behavioral or instructional objectives, communication, and methods of eliciting class participation to effectively conduct a positive learning experience.
- Knowledge of a variety of instructional methods and principles to direct students in a full range of learning experiences and analytical ability to maintain and improve course content.
- Have functional knowledge to operate and administer education and training through a cell phone application that includes all pillars of human performance, including physical training, nutrition, and mental performance skills.
- Experience in the field of physical training to evaluate and improve DEA physical training courses.
- Expert ability to perform body composition analysis to determine body fat percentages, body fat mass, and skeletal muscle mass; perform hand dynamometer grip strength test, leg length measurements, knee to wall test, Y-balance test, hand tap test, and single leg lunge test to determine injury vulnerability and capacity; and administer surveys to determine overall health, quality of life, nutritional habits, stress levels, and sleep hygiene.
- Have resources available to them in the areas of physical fitness as well as throughout the law enforcement community to increase the practical value of course material.
- Be capable of operating independently or collectively in a high-paced environment.
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
- Possess a state driver's license that meets Real ID requirements, or a U.S. passport as required by the Transportation Security Administration to travel CONUS.
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance or required DEA facility access and background screening
Desired Experience and Skills:
- Prior experience in military, law enforcement, or federal high-performance training environments (e.g., Special Operations, FBI, or other relevant agencies)
- Demonstrated success leading or managing human performance programs, including staff oversight, curriculum development, and measurable improvements in graduation/injury-reduction metrics.
- Hands-on experience with performance technology platforms (wearables, mobile apps, readiness dashboards).
- Background in adult education or instruction at the collegiate or professional level.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder coordination skills in high-stress training settings.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree; Master's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Human Performance, Sports Psychology, Public Health, or related field preferred
- Current Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification through NSCA.
