We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Technical Writer to support enterprise IT modernization and sustainment initiatives within a Federal environment. This role contributes to documentation efforts across one or more products or capability areas and is responsible for developing clear, accurate, and accessible documentation that supports Agile delivery, solution engineering, system enhancements, and deployment activities. The Technical Writer partners closely with Program Managers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, Engineers, QA teams, and other stakeholders to ensure documentation is accurate, structured, and aligned with contractual and organizational standards. Documentation is considered an important component of release readiness, and this role supports timely delivery of required artifacts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and maintain technical documentation including requirements documentation, solution design overviews, deployment plans, release notes, user guides, administrator guides, and related artifacts.
• Translate technical designs and engineering concepts into clear user-facing and administrative documentation.
• Contribute to documentation structure, organization, and templates to promote consistency across deliverables.
• Support Agile delivery efforts by documenting backlog items, sprint outcomes, capability summaries, and roadmap updates.
• Assist in ensuring documentation deliverables are completed in alignment with release timelines.
• Document system enhancements, configuration updates, integration changes, workflow updates, and sustainment activities.
• Support documentation requirements aligned with Federal process, compliance, and governance standards as applicable.
• Develop content across multiple formats, which may include web-based help systems, PDF guides, knowledge base articles, and in-application help.
• Maintain version control of documentation artifacts within designated repositories.
• Participate in planning sessions and stakeholder meetings to gather requirements and reflect updates in documentation.
• Review and edit documentation to ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to established style guidelines.
• Develop diagrams, workflows, and visual representations to enhance understanding of system functionality and business processes.
• Coordinate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), project leads, and engineers to validate technical accuracy.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
• 3+ years of experience as a Technical Writer supporting IT systems, software development initiatives, or enterprise applications.
• Experience translating technical concepts into clear and concise documentation for varied audiences.
• Familiarity with documenting within Agile environments.
• Ability to organize content logically and design documentation templates or structures as needed.
• Strong written communication and editing skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and common documentation tools.
• Ability to manage multiple documentation tasks in a dynamic delivery environment.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:
• Experience working with Federal agencies, particularly the Department of Veterans Affairs, is a plus.
• Familiarity with accessibility standards (e.g., Section 508).
• Experience supporting system sustainment, enhancement, or modernization initiatives.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
CLEARANCE:
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
