Duties
Help
  • Processes medication orders or prescriptions by using computerized order entry in and extraction of pertinent drug data from patient charts and/ or through patient interview.
  • Clarifies questionable orders with ordering medical provider for instances such as requests for an unknown medication or illegible/ unclear orders and/ or may recommend acceptable substitutes.
  • Identifies problems independently and adjusts accordingly for final screening by Pharmacist.
  • Performs technical functions with computer-based systems and software such as: transcribes prescriptions into the current pharmacy computer system, processes prescriptions with the current pharmacy automation and robotics.
  • Ensures proper storage conditions and may assist supply activities.
  • Reads and interprets prescriptions into our electronic health record.
  • Assures correct medication is filled by using bar code scanning technology.
  • Restocking automated dispensing cabinets and robotic systems that store and dispense medications.
  • Complete monthly inspections to ensure proper storage of medications.
  • Complies with all laws, regulations, directives, policies, and procedures applying to the dispensing, storage, transfer, inventory, and accountability of controlled substances.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.

  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility or a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • TDY: You may be expected to travel up to 10% for this position.
Qualifications

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) preparing and/or filling prescriptions with appropriate medications; 2) utilizing computer system to process prescriptions; 3) dispensing medications to patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
