We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Accountant to join the accounting department of our Finance and Administration group at Aeronautical Systems (ASI) affiliate. This position is in San Diego (Poway), CA and offers a 9/80 flex hybrid work schedule.
Under general supervision with regular review for accuracy, this position supports the development, implementation and/or maintenance of various accounting activities including journal entries and the reconciliation of general ledger accounts. Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors. Assist with internal presentations as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs specific general accounting and travel accounting activities through the input of accounting transactions and the monitoring, coordinating, and summarizing of accounting results.
- Will interact with traveler and/or admin to ensure compliance with processes and procedures
- Monitors of cash advance, direct billing and company's travel card
- Performance weekly reconciliation of travel card and expense report
- Prepare quarterly gift log reporting
- Work with travelers and/or admin to resolve overpayment and outstanding travel expenses
- Determines propriety of accounting entries associated with projects, accounts, and trial balances in accordance with financial policies, practices, and procedures.
- Maintains an awareness of the financial activities within the assigned areas of responsibility to ensure smooth operations and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Applies general knowledge of accounting/financial policies and procedures when responding to specific questions and non-routine problem resolution.
- Performs monthly, quarterly and year-end balance sheet reconciliation.
- Assists with internal review and audit of travel and expense report.
- Monitors and analyzes large volumes of data while maintaining an alertness for abnormalities. Recommends and initiates corrective action.
- Assists in development of reporting and metrics.
- Audit complex travel and expense reports.
- May prepare customer invoices, monitor project costs, and record project revenue.
- May represent the accounting department on specific projects.
- Participates in process improvement projects.
- Determines and implements the most effective methods for controlling and processing accounting information.
- Ensure proper documentation in accordance with external requirements.
- May function in an advisory role and provide accounting guidance to less experienced staff.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Additional Functions Other duties as assigned or required.
Job Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting, finance or related discipline along with six or more years of progressive experience in accounting with a bachelor's degree or four or more years of experience with a master's degree. Equivalent professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
- Must demonstrate a complete understanding of accounting theories, concepts and principles, as well as a thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, cost accounting standards, and FAR.
- Must possess leadership skills including organizing, scheduling, and coordinating work assignments to meet project milestones or established completion dates.
- Must be customer focused and possess:
- the ability to identify issues, analyze and interpret data and develop solutions to a variety of complex problems.
- excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present findings; (
- excellent interpersonal skills to influence and guide all levels of employees, including management.
