General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We have an exciting opportunity for a PHS&T Specialist to join our Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) Group located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

Under general supervision with limited review this position is responsible for performing the Packaging, Handling, Storage, and Transportation (PHS&T) tasks, for multiple EMS programs where packaging is required. The ideal candidate must be a subject matter expert able to accurately identify and develop PHS&T coding, develop special packaging instructions, and identify requirements for dual use and multi-use containers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • As a PHS&T subject matter expert, this position will be relied upon heavily by the program, sustainment manager, logistics and other functional teams to have the answers to supplier requirements which impact program deliverables and are consistent with team objectives and US Government standards.
  • Review EDFP for special packaging requirements, identify candidate items, review and comment on required PSH&T EDFP data & collaborate with engineering and logistician staff to resolve discrepancies.
  • Apply DoD systems acquisition functions that are associated with determining PHS&T requirements and data.
  • Load PHS&T data for program parts and material IAW MIL-STD-2073 and GEIA-STD-0007B for delivered parts and hardware requiring support.
  • Create special packaging instructions by updating the Special Packaging Retrieval System.
  • Must be familiar with Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Container Design Retrieval System.
  • Create plans and policies IAW MIL-STD-2073, AFI 24-203, AFMCI 24-201 and MIL-STD-129.
  • Perform Packaging Engineering analyses and/or documentation development in compliance with customer requirements and applicable military or commercial standards and specifications.
  • Support the spares packaging department efforts of production programs through floor support, written work instructions and tracking of project completion status.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree in logistics or related technical field with experience as follows; ten or more years of progressive logistics management experience with a bachelor's or eight or more years with a master's. Equivalent applicable experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • Experience with DoD acquisition programs providing PHS&T Support or Transportation and Logistics (CTL) certification is required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Packaging Engineering and working knowledge of packaging engineering requirements is desired.
  • Experience developing MIL-STD-2073 codes is required. Working knowledge of MIL-STD-129 is required.
  • Must be familiar with Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Container Design Retrieval System.
  • Experienced creating special packaging instructions is required.
  • Experience developing and selecting packaging containers is required.
  • Experience in International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR) is preferred.
  • Must have excellent professional written and verbal communication skills. Must be willing and have ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required. Active DoD Secret security clearance or higher is preferred.
