Description
The Mechanical Assembler is responsible for assembling mechanical components and subassemblies according to engineering drawings, work requests, written and verbal instructions, and quality specifications and tolerances. We are seeking an individual who can apply their Mechanical Assembler experience to add value and make a strong impact supporting the Naval Air Warfare Center (NAWCAD), Naval Air Systems Command, and the NAWCAD Webster Outlying Field Divisions.
Primary Responsibilities
Assembly & Fabrication
Assemble mechanical parts, components, and systems using hand tools, power tools, and assembly fixtures.
Interpret and follow blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and direction from senior fabricators.
Perform fitting, alignment, and installation of parts/hardware to ensure proper form, fit, and function.
Install solid military specification (MILSPEC) rivets and other aircraft hardware, including, but not limited to Southco fasteners, pem inserts, nut plates and rivnuts.
Quality Control
Inspect parts and assemblies for defects or deviations from specifications.
Report non-conformities to department lead prior to or during the assembly process.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain records of materials used and time spent on tasks.
Read and interpret drawings to properly complete material request documents to inventory control.
Safety & Maintenance
Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Perform basic maintenance on tools and equipment.
Team Collaboration
Communicate effectively with team members, Leads, and Supervisor.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and team meetings.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; technical training in mechanical assembly a plus
1–3 years of experience in mechanical assembly or related field preferred
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics
Proficiency with hand and power tools
Strong attention to detail and quality
Basic math and measurement skills
Specialized Experience
Hands-on mechanical assembly in a manufacturing environment
Experience with interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
Knowledge of safety protocols and use of PPE in production environment
Work Conditions
Conditions will vary. Capable of working outdoors in temperatures ranging from 0–100 degrees. The position will include regular standing, bending, reaching, sitting, walking, and lifting. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Overtime may be necessary from time to time depending on workload.
