Pipefitter

Purpose:
  • Valkyrie Enterprises has a need for a Pipefitter position who will be a key support to fitting on Naval Ships. The Pipefitter will lay out, fit, and fabricate Pipe components to assemble piping systems within the hull of ship. They will use drawings and specifications to fit and weld operations and ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes and standards.

Job Description:
  • Repair and replacement of ships piping systems such as auxiliary salt water, fire main, potable water, hydraulic, compressed air, fuel oil, and lube oil are accomplished utilizing work specifications, NAVSEA/military standards, drawings, and blueprints.
  • Necessary fabrication abilities include the use of various shop equipment such as band saw, threading machines, bending machines and brazing equipment.
  • Additional tasks associated with this position are setting up and pressure testing of piping systems and returning systems to operational status.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned, some of which may be essential to the position
  • Must be able to read and interpret marine piping blueprints and military specifications
  • Meet scheduling and attendance requirements.
  • Ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Able to work well with others in a team environment.
  • Comply with all OSHA, shipyard safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • May be required to travel to jobsites away from Shipyard and utilize company vehicle.
  • May be required to work more than the standard work week, including weekends.

Qualifications:
  • Must have a Highschool diploma or GED.
  • Must have two years of shipboard experience and be a journeyman level of competence.
  • Must have experience in pipefitting in a marine/shipyard environment
  • Proficient in fabrication, installation, and testing marine piping systems.
  • Ability to understand, perform, and certify for silver-brazing
  • Must be able to use hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently
  • Must have own tools
  • Must meet NAVSEA 248 requirements by passing MIL-STD 1689 T9074-AR-GIB-010-278 Workmanship requirements
  • Must be able to understand and interpret welding and piping symbols IAW MIL-STD 22D.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Able to obtain a passport

Security Requirements:
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance to access private and public shipyards and Naval Installations

Travel Requirements:
  • Up to 50% travel nationwide to include international travel as needed
  • If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs
  • Must be physically agile to perform tasks in naval ships. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes.
  • May ride ships at sea for extended periods
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
  • Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
  • Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts
  • While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl.
  • Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
  • Frequent use of respirator.

Pay Range: $28 - $32 per hour
