The Aeronautics Research and Advanced Design Air Vehicle Design organization is looking for tanker mission specialist with intimate knowledge of all tanker platforms including KC-135, KC-46, KC-10 and insights on next generation tanker acquisition. Candidate must have served as previous boom operator, experimental flight tester, portfolio manager for air refueling, or have participated in the acquisition of tanker aircraft. In this role, you will be asked to work in a small team environment to conduct research, develop models, and perform analysis of a wide set of military missions at the systems of systems architecture level across multiple domains (friendly and adversary; ground, air and space) to influence the pursuit of future unmanned technologies and capabilities. Essential functions for this role includes the following:
  • Develop new requirements for next generation autonomous boom.
  • Provide boom operator insight into the development of hardware and control software of boom technology.
  • Provide operational insight for operational analysis of tanker platforms including insights as to how to operate in highly contested environments.
  • Develop MBSE models of boom functional to physical architectures and recommend alternative architectures.
  • Solicit input from various stakeholders, synthesize data, and communicate results to various levels of leadership within the organization.


The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of related engineering experience, or a Master's Degree and 6 years of experience, or 4 years of experience with a PhD.

Model Based Systems Engineering Experience and/or Systems Engineering Architecture Development including requirements definition and development.

Experience in systems engineering tools, such as DOORS, CAMEO.

Must have demonstrated experience in providing solutions to a variety of technical problems under general supervision.

Must have proven experience in communicating with peers in a detailed, and process-oriented fashion.

A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance or higher is required to start, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance with Special Program Access (PAR/SAP).

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in MBSE, or SysML principals.

Familiarity with Military concepts, tactics, and procedures.

Familiarity with AGILE/SCRUM

Excellent communications skills, including the ability to present and brief technical date to all levels of leadership within the organization and U.S. Government.

A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance with current or previous Special Program Access (SAP)/SCI.

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $213,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
