We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Technician in our Manufacturing and Research & Development area. This position under modest supervision supports our scientific staff with a variety of engineering and operational activities.

Job Qualifications
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Technician in our Manufacturing and Research & Development area. This position under modest supervision supports our scientific staff with a variety of engineering and operational activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fabricates, modifies, installs, maintains, and documents laboratory, experimental or commercial equipment of moderate complexity in conjunction with prototype and lab processes.
- Operates specialized equipment and/or perform tests requiring knowledge of processes and the ability to read precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers and depth gauges.
- Capable of welding aluminum, stainless steel and other raw materials.
- Has the knowledge and capability of bending stainless steel tubing.
- Assists in the assembly and development of new product designs and processes requiring the ability to understand CAD drawings and, in some cases, handwritten drawings.
- Identifies and reports operational problems or trouble sources in equipment or tests, and cleans, adjusts, and maintains laboratory equipment. Maintains equipment logs to ensure proper upkeep and change history of equipment.
- Interprets equipment status information to recognize when various operating measures are drifting out of established parameters. May adjust operating parameters to bring systems back to satisfactory operating conditions.
- Proficient with electrical wiring and capable of wiring and building test cabinets.
- Collects, records, reduces, summarizes and maintains data on all new processes and effectively communicates information to engineering in the form of tables, plots, and input for written reports.
- May work with toxic materials, chemicals and gases.
- Works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices staying up to date with safety training classes.
- Monitors all operations for regulatory and safety compliance.
- Carries out a variety of routine laboratory duties including housekeeping and clean up.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications
- Typically requires associate's degree or equivalent with nine or more years of experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education
- Experience with water cooling systems, plumbing, pumps, motors and controllers is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of and experience with basic electronics is desirable.
- Experience with hand and power tools essential; ability to perform machining desirable.
- Training and/or experience in test or experimental operations normally acquired in the military or technical schools desirable.
- Knowledge of computer operations and applications pertinent to the field required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and excel is desirable.
- Must be able to work with common hand tools and operate laboratory equipment.
- Experience in the use of a lathe, milling machine, and/or drill press is preferred.
- Experience with chemical handling and the use of a respirator is preferred.
- Must have the capability to perform complex assignments under limited review.
- Ability and willingness to work on systems which have unusual conditions such as high pressure, high voltage, high energy, cryogens, or radioactive materials, and must be able to perform duties with confidence while wearing personal protective equipment.
- Works in a lab environment requiring long periods of standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- May operate heavy equipment (forklifts, cranes, lifts and company vehicle) to aid in the installation and removal equipment requiring a clean and valid driver's license.
- Knowledge of computer operations and applications pertinent to the field required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain secret level clearance is desired.
