What does this role look like?

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Loads & Dynamics to support the analysis, development, and verification of complex aerospace and defense systems. This role will focus on structural loads development, dynamic analysis, and structural integrity assessment across the product lifecycle-from concept development through test and flight operations.

The selected candidate will work in a collaborative, cross-functional engineering environment supporting missile, space, or launch vehicle programs. Responsibilities include developing load cases, performing dynamic simulations, supporting structural qualification testing, and ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.

This position requires strong analytical capabilities, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to clearly communicate technical findings to internal stakeholders and external customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and analyze static and dynamic load cases for flight and ground systems

• Perform structural dynamics analyses including modal, transient, shock, vibration, and coupled loads analyses

• Generate and correlate finite element models to test data

• Support structural qualification and acceptance testing (vibration, acoustic, shock, modal survey, etc.)

• Perform rigid body and flexible body dynamic simulations

• Evaluate structural margins and document results in formal technical reports

• Collaborate with design, stress, systems, manufacturing, and test engineering teams

• Support design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and customer briefings

Clearance Required: Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance, thus US Citizenship is required.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline.

• Experience performing structural loads and/or dynamics analysis.

• Experience with finite element modeling and analysis tools (e.g., NX/Nastran, Abaqus, ANSYS, or equivalent).

• Experience interpreting dynamic environments including vibration, shock, acoustic, or transient loading.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance; active Secret clearance required at time of hire. US citizenship is required.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Skills:
• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis in structural dynamics or related field

• Experience supporting missile, space, launch vehicle, or aerospace structural programs

• Experience with coupled loads analysis or multi-body dynamics tools (e.g., ADAMS, LS-DYNA)

• Experience correlating analytical models with structural test data

• Familiarity with GEVS, MIL-STD-810, or other aerospace environmental qualification standards

• Experience supporting hardware through integration and environmental testing

• Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or Mathcad for data reduction and analysis automation

• Experience working in a classified program environment

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $85,500 - $150,765. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
