We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator - Remote Applications to design, manage, and optimize enterprise remote application and virtual access platforms. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in Microsoft RDS, Citrix, VDI, and application virtualization technologies, with a strong focus on performance, security, and high-availability for distributed workforces.

Details
Target Salary Range: $112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.

About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator - Remote Applications to design, manage, and optimize enterprise remote application and virtual access platforms. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in Microsoft RDS, Citrix, VDI, and application virtualization technologies, with a strong focus on performance, security, and high-availability for distributed workforces.
Key Responsibilities
Remote Application Platform Engineering
- Design, administer, and support enterprise remote application platforms (RDS, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, VDI, application virtualization).
- Manage RDS farms, session hosts, brokers, gateways, and licensing servers.
- Administer Citrix delivery controllers, StoreFront, Workspace, and supporting components.
- Lead platform upgrades, migrations, and architecture enhancements.
Performance, Scalability & High Availability
- Optimize performance, resource utilization, and user experience across remote environments.
- Implement and maintain load balancing, redundancy, and failover strategies.
- Monitor platform health and proactively address performance bottlenecks.
Security & Access Controls
- Collaborate with security teams to implement secure remote access controls and baselines.
- Manage SSL certificates, secure gateway configurations, and encryption settings.
- Apply Group Policy, hardening standards, and configuration baselines for session hosts.
Troubleshooting & Advanced Support
- Diagnose and resolve complex session, profile, and application delivery issues.
- Manage user profiles (roaming profiles, FSLogix, UPM) and application settings.
- Serve as an escalation point for remote access and virtual application issues.
Operations, Lifecycle & Documentation
- Support patching, updates, and lifecycle management of remote application platforms.
- Maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational standards.
- Coordinate with networking teams on firewall rules, DNS, load balancing, and connectivity requirements.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field, and 8 years of experience. 4 years of additional experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
- 7 years of systems administration experience with a strong focus on remote access technologies.
- Expert-level experience with Microsoft RDS and/or Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.
- Strong Windows Server and Active Directory experience.
- Experience with profile management and application virtualization technologies.
- Familiarity with networking concepts related to remote access (DNS, load balancing, firewalls).
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (PowerShell).
- DoD 8140 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+).
- Active TS/SCI clearance.
- Experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) or cloud-hosted VDI solutions.
- Experience with VMware Horizon or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of MFA, conditional access, zero trust, and secure remote access models.
- Relevant certifications (Microsoft, Citrix, VMware)
